Welcome to /amv/, a board for more involved discussion of media.
This board is intended to accommodate nuanced and lengthy threads, but is very much NOT intended to work as containment. Silly or spontaneous threads will remain on /jp/ and it's expected that they will continue to lead to conversations of their own. For the best experience, you need to visit all of kissu!
OP must start a conversation and should make a thread with the expectation of supporting the thread for a period of time.

State of Play: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TseHnGx0vPs

Rebrand E3 is going on right now and it's starting off with the absolute state of play first. The one Pragmata loli co-op game is getting a 'real' 'definitely this time' release window in 2026 and there's a new Suda51 game coming out that year too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW1cE6sj6h8. Also they're doing Ape Escape tie ins with MGS so they can make a reboot or sequel or something.

I'm hoping for the official Silksong release date during all of this since it's basically guaranteed to come out now.

After playing a lot of fangames, I've been revisiting Yume Nikki recently. I didn't see a thread for it here, so I thought I would make one!

Do you have a favourite fangame? Are there any specific dreams you find yourself returning to a lot? Have you seen any good fanart lately? Any memorable experiences in YNO?

Post about it here!

I played Yume Tagai recently. It's unfinished, and sadly doesn't look like it's being updated anymore, but it has a great atmosphere and does some really unique things.

I've been getting pretty jaded with the direction Yume 2kki has been heading in for a while now, so it was nice to play something short and simple for a change.

 No.7394

It's been a while since I've played the original. As for fangames and stuff, I played Yume 2kki about, uhh... 4 years ago? Something like that.
I really need to be in the right mind for these games and I haven't been in one in a while, my mind has just been racing too much.

 No.7398

I've played a decent amount of 2kki through YNO but there's so much in that game so I've only scratched the surface. It's fun to occasionally tag along with randoms but the playerbase is pretty meh/underage/esl. Seems like it would be fun with friends though.

>there's so much in that game so I've only scratched the surface
Yeah, it's kind of overwhelming how big 2kki has become. When I started playing it still felt realistic that you could see most of it by yourself but these days I can't even imagine it's possible to find all of the effects without a guide. There are just too many new connections that lead you down super deep rabbit holes away from the original areas.
In a way it can be cool how infinite 2kki feels, but lately I find myself getting kind of fatigued by it. I think one of Nikki's greatest strengths is how focused it is, as weird as that feels to say. There's not really any "filler" in that game.

I like when there's newer Seiyuu that capture my interest immediately when I hear them on a main role. Like with everyone on Asobi Asobase (one of them is the /qa/ voice!), Izumi Fuuka as Utena in MahoAko, and now Mikawa Haruna as Satoko in NinKoro. Her more deadpan-ish delivery at times combined with a tinge of malicious pleasure is a nice treat for the ears.

Also what the hell I didn't even realize Kana Hanazawa was Konoha until I looked it up now, she actually wasn't instantly recognizable for once.

The cute ninja anime has really been providing classic anime wackiness in a way that's been sorely lacking recently apart from Jashin-chan. I think this anime follows more the core spirit of what makes dark humor so great. The morality, or lack thereof, of their actions isn't forcefully shoved in your face and even is made light of as the killing spree continues unrepentant and furthermore rewarded. All the real negatives are left in the meta of the anime where you associate getting to learn the characters better with their unceremonious deaths. That carefree attitude lending itself perfectly to taking jabs at society as mindless killing provides a better life for Satoko and Konoha than any sort of ordinary lifestyle could, completely devaluing human life into a yen sign and enjoying each second of it.

I think Shaft having made this was truly a boon for this anime. Their prior experience with SZS and Maria Holic (No surprise also looking at who from Shaft directed this) primed them to be absolutely perfect for pulling it off. Not sure there's any other studio out there at the moment who could tackle it without shoving in some sort of forced moralfagging or messing up the underlying cynicism. Konoha isn't the kind of character I can see working as anyone but the completely black face of psychopathy, greed, and sloth that she is. And Satoko is perfect as her easily manipulated and lacking the brains for ethics sidekick. The abusive light yuri relationship between them being the perfect icing to complement this murder cake. I hope it succeeds as a nice like Jashin/Mahoako did and we can see a return to more Dokuros/Punies lighting our screens going into the future.

How much realism can be sacrificed for narrative convenience? I'm really liking Ninja to Koroshiya, but it's kind of difficult to understand what's going on when 90% of the characters don't have any distinguishing physical traits. I get that its for authenticity, but I feel like the show would be improved if they gave them all distinct designs, or even some subtle accessories or something, so that the audience can tell them apart.

Let's become hunter-gathers together!

I discovered this game recently, and it's pretty enjoyable. Despite the Minecraft-like appearance the game is so much more in-depth and realistic when it comes to its gameplay. Crafting, for example, can require multiple items within a crafting space, and creating things like tools requires you to actually knap stones into shape, creating pottery requires shaping clay, mining requires finding surface copper, etc. The built-in survival guide for looking up crafting recipes is basically a necessity.

Server: 207.211.172.205

You can buy the game from https://www.vintagestory.at/ for 20 EUR.

The refund policy is really generous if you don't like it:
"We offer refunds within 2 weeks of purchase or 10 hours of play time, whichever comes first. However, even if you fall outside those limits you can still request a refund and we'll take a look. In principle, if you don't like our game, then we also don't want to keep your money."

Maebashi Witches has been the surprise of the season for me and like 90% of it comes from this fat cunt being aggressively toxic at every available opportunity. Almost everything that works about the other characters and situations works because she's there to play off it and escalate minor annoyances into full-blown shouting matches. There is both humor and catharsis in her extreme and immediate judgementalism towards all the vapid and self-serving bullshit pervading the world. Even when she's hypocritically calling out her own flaws in other people her disgust only serves to emphasize how she truly understands the level of how bad it is.

It's an odd situation where there's a lot of mechanical depth with the absorption powers and a lot of effort goes into the level design on an aesthetic level but the challenges are generally very basic. It's a neat way to keep the games easy enough for small children while still giving enough toys to play with to keep an older audience engaged.

Most of the challenge in Kirby games, at least the more modern ones, comes from the true arena boss rush at the end of the game. They're all genuinely challenging and arguably the main appeal of the games for more experienced players.
The main game is usually great too but it's more about spectacle and getting familiar with the different powers and mechanics.

 No.7333

There's some personal challenge stuff you can do, too, like winning using only specific powerups or stuff like that. I never really cared for that, but it's something people do. To me Kirby games are a thing I do to relax and just enjoy the music and cute atmosphere. It's like a Slice of Life anime in video game form.
It often includes a lot of minigames, too, which can be strangely good for being minigames.

But the reason why Kirby doesn't just fly out of the endless pits, is because he's too focused on what he's going to eat that day, and which friends he should invite to eat together! He zones out thinking about that, and only realizes what happened when he's already splattered on the floor

That, and he's too lazy to fly all the way back up

 No.6699[Reply]

It started off a bit slow but I think the Sentai Daishikkaku show has found its stride again. Episodes 2-4 kind of fell into a standard "fight against the local big bad guy" thing which I do find enjoyable, but the stakes weren't the same. There were peeks into things happening elsewhere, but due to the abilities on display the plot was focused. It was still very enjoyable in the standard shounen-y way!
Having watched episode 5, I can say that it's really done a great job of re-establishing the things I liked about it begin with. Lots of complicated motivations and factions and some mystery to go with it as well. You can't tell what's going to happen next!
I feel a bit limited on what I can praise about it without spoiling stuff, unfortunately. The visuals are still really good and this studio is definitely continuing to improve on things there.

It feels like there's a lot of keikaku going on lately. Who is pulling whose strings? This stuff is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S.
I'll have a theory going, but then there's another episode that makes it unlikely or impossible. This might be an issue of what feels like condensing so many chapters into a single episode. I might have to start looking at the manga to follow along.
I'm very curious about Red now. I thought he was just an evil jerk, but maybe he's a monster boss? Or does he have clones? Was he pretending to be hurt by D two episodes ago? Or maybe it's more simple and he just has lookalikes that interact with the public for events?
I also still don't know who to root for. Sakurama seems like a good guy, but naive. This doesn't seem like the kind of story where he would naturally find the right answer as the "good guy", either.

 No.7346

I think there's a lot of bad options. It's a very distopian show where the only decent option is the status quo. So far no one other than the rangers have been able to move the story while the fighters or pacifists are dominated by monsters who are in turn destroyed by rangers.

Cute yellow or D might try to effect the story but the rangers could do or overpower any of the things they're trying.
Hibiki is useless and not engaged with the story.

 No.7352

File:Go.Go.Loser.Ranger.S02E08.….jpg (273.15 KB,1920x1080)

>>7346
>the only decent option is the status quo
Thing is, this whole mess comes from the status quo being bad. The rangers did some fuckery to get their divine tools, to power up Red (who, remember, is superhuman even without transforming), and instead of eliminating a threat to humanity they decided to drag it out and build an industry off its spectacle, so after many years there are now several people coming together to get back at them. Weight of their sins, internal contradictions, you know how it goes.
>>7337
I'm thinking Red's nature ties into the bioresearch the yellows carried out in the past.
>lookalikes
Quite possibly.
Besides that, it was a fast episode but it was by no means incomprehensible. Rangers got baited, then IRA (begorrah!) used their viral fame to pull their next move, and the keepers decided to follow the congregation assuming something would go down.

 No.7357

>>7352
It's not really a bad status quo, and Green Butai is the only one actually doing it's job while the others dick around and Pink is relegated to service tasks. Blue idk... the anime didn't explain it. Red of course being the frontline troops who do nothing causes the biggest issues.

The inequality creates problems, but the Japanese "Co-Existence is not an objective truth" suggests that there is a wrong side here and it's not trying to both-sides the issue. The monsters are in the wrong, and D is only correct in that he's a person who grows empathy as he deals with others.

 No.7358

>>7357
The monsters are obviously in the wrong and the executives have all been soulless monsters, but the rangers still handled the situation poorly and the bad things happening right now, like the kaiju attacks, are a consequence of that. The ideal timeline would've been the one where the invasion is quickly dispatched and rangers act according to their duty without forming this perverse system of half-assed exploitation.

from what I played of 1, its a pretty tough game that demands that you pre-plan your fights and abuse finishing attacks with the heat gauge. I also tried the remake Kiwami 1 and while it follows the originals direction, it injects a lot of back story and makes the fights with the original games combat a bit more cumbersome when having to use the yakuza 0 fighting styles instead, which is pretty jarring.

This latest episode of Apocalypse Hotel is what it should have been from the start.
I checked the new releases for today, saw that new Apocalypse Hotel episode was out, almost didn't want to watch it; but this episode was good. Starting off strong with the 'cooners leaving the hotel, then a new guest arrives who actually bonds with Yachiyo, and even shows us what the post apocalyptic world looks like. It reminded me of "Somali to Mori no Kamisama".
There was almost no racoons this episode, but the times when they showed the girl racoon really broke the immersion into what was going on between Yachiyo and the new guest. Racoons were the worst thing that happened to the show.

I think the growth of Ponko from a side character to the new head of the hotel has been a nice arc. It's allowed her to go from a more annoying side-kick to an actually dependable semi-owner. Yachiyo's more incapable body now somewhat represents a stepping down of her own that lends to a more natural handing over of the reigns while they still greatly respect her for her work and she keeps a smaller role.

For an original it's doing quite well to keep its strength throughout and not let itself wander into too wacky territory. Remaining a bit somber still throughout RIP Mujina ;_;7 though with that faint glimmer of hope for the revitalization of civilization, not through humanity, but the Tanuki. I've quite fallen in love with it over this season and that's not too common when the natural tendency of a show is to decline, guess that's what happens when you have a competent director/writer heading the project. Which is made all the better when you realize this is Shundou Kana's first true directorial debut after having done assistant direction for so long, another name to keep note of.
