That reveal was underwhelming...
So much for "I will take you to to top of the world, only to have you plummet to the depths of hell" (paraphrased).
The guy was never dependent on Mia for it to be satisfying when he was betrayed, or at least it wasn't portrayed as such in the anime. They were living their own separate lives, with only the fact that he loves Mia, and that he thinks Mia is also head over heals for him (???) being clear.
Disappointing.

it's a community-made matchmaking software for playing melee online with other people, equipped with a ranked mode as well (which is what this is from). everyone who plays melee nowadays uses it for practice, and since it uses peer to peer netcode it has very little lag compared to previous online modes for melee (and is much superior to smash ultimate's online mode)

 No.7093

I got Melee as a bonus from my parents when I wished for a GameCube only so that I could play Sunshine. It makes me a little sad to think about the fact that I never really got into it, feels a little bit like I wasted my parents thoughtfulness. I've only ever played the single player experience and I'm utter dog water at the game, something about the basic movement alone just doesn't click with me. I always played Samus because her suit is cool!
It amazes me to see the insane level of control a lot of players seem to have.

this tbh
Japan looks virtually indistinguishable from the rural countryside of my home.
It's more or less the exact same. Sure there's some neat geographical features here and there like the Kofu basin, but overall it is much nicer here. The landscapes aren't really what's exciting, it's really more about a sort of yamatodamashii. Because it does feel different in the Japanese countryside. Here everything is shiny and nice and developed, but Japan is old and rundown, yet well-maintained. It's a very different feeling.

Because that's how I feel with Slime 300 part deux. It's getting me to watch it enough I guess but I'm not really feeling all that much. Is it just that there's increased competition this season that's pushing it out of mind or has the anime reclined without me realizing it? I think I should be enjoying this more.

I don't get the same endearment as much as I have for S1 but I think it's really a combination of multiple things. The main obvious one is that it's taken too long for S2 to come out which I can't fully blame them for but it is a major contributor. But to put that out of the way, while watching S2 over time, I've come to regrow most of the feelings I've had for the main cast which, in a way, emphasizes my issues with S2. There's just no friction in the story anymore at this point. It's nice to see the characters you've experienced this with see happiness and as far as that is concerned, I will never tire of it. But for myself as a viewer, I'm not really getting much of anything from the show anymore past that.

I just now learned that the Wii U servers were shut down last year, which means no more Splatoon 1. I loved that game and I played a whole ton of it back during its heyday, so it's sad that it's no longer playable in online mode—which is like 95% of the game. I guess this is inevitable fate of all online games.

I am almost tempted to buy a Switch just for Splatoon 3 but I don't know how long the servers will last now that Switch 2 is coming, and I don't want to buy a Switch 2 and pay $80 dollars for a game.

Gacha games are a lot like life.
You don't have any fun but you keep coming back every day because it gets you the rush of cheap praise.
The only way to make it to the top is to have more money to blow on it when you start.
You spend millions on it and then one day it just ends without warning and everything you put into it turns into leaves in the wind.

They lose all appeal when the focus shifts to serious relationship building.

I have found a fresh way to look at multimedia.
This post is me ranting around Neon Genesis Evangelion, because that's how I came to the discovery, but these are not the point at all.
It's fun to see why, in terms of raw human experience, Eva (TV) got popular and inspiring for many, and how it could be possible to make what would have a more potent form of the impression it gives. I'm not viewing it as some model anime whose recipe must be followed to the T for any concept or premise as if that's the best way for anything. It's also helpful to observe the commonalities between other works, so it's possible to understand them better.

What features make a work of fiction an "Evangelion-like"? The lucid importance of each can be talked about for as much as it can be guessed intuitively, and being concise is possible.

IMPORTANT
I.1 Large mechanized units are the working horses of the main cast, additionally serving as little as a third point in a contrast network that also involves at least the main cast and the "outside" world.
I.2 The focus of the sentiment is on Mono no Aware. It's okay if the work does not abide by Mono no Aware in a traditional manner.
I.3 The work is at least light sekai-kei: it's only the consistent focus on a relationship between just two specific people that is optional. The main point is in the disproportionate, reality-warping relevance of relationships between the key cast.
I.4 The work has a welcoming mythological quality to it; it shouldn't merely count as an origin of a myth for any sequel — it should continue from at least a borrowed myth, if not the one it had handcrafted for the plot.
I.5 At least some of the main cast could be said to be common sense sensibility people put into a myth. Note that relatability without shared sensibility is possible.

OPTIONAL AMPLIFIERS FOR QUALITY
O.1 A kuudere character is featured within the main cast. Emotional detachment in face of I.4 amplifies I.2, I.3, and I.5.

The defining, eponymous feature of sekai-kei is that the characters' inner world is massively extended to the point of becoming as important as the external world, or more so. A longer definition is one I have here in a paper, quoting Kasai Kiyoshi from 2009:
>A group of works in which the small, everyday life problem of the relationship (kimi to boku) of the protagonist (boku, i.e. a male) and the heroine in his thoughts (kimi), and an abstract, extraordinary large problem such as ‘a world crisis’ or ‘the end of the world,’ are simplistically connected directly without a (midway) interposition of a completely concrete (social) context.
Or this other snippet from Uno Tsunehiro:
>Also called ‘Post-Evangelion Syndrome.’ A series of otaku-type works which remove [concepts such as] ‘society’ and ‘nation’ while extending ‘one’s own feelings’ or ‘self-consciousness’ to perceive them on the scope of ‘the world.’
So Gundam is not sekai-kei for reasons identical to the ones Hiroki Azuma gives in crediting Evangelion with the shift towards database consumption instead of narrative consumption: Gundam deals with society, with a storied world, with war, Eva focuses on a small circle of characters while most of humanity is as conspicuously absent as it is in Monogatari, Tokyo-3 is positively devoid of life at times. Consider episode 6, where they use up all of Japan's electricity to deal with Ramiel, and none of the logistical issues or consequences of such a feat are ever mentioned, they just go ahead and do it. The repercussions on society simply do not matter, it effectively doesn't exist. Much more important are Shinji and Rei's feelings. Likewise, in Haruhi the fate of existence literally hinges on keeping her in check, it's the whole point.

The problem with this is that a stupidly xbox fuckhueg amount of Japanese stories changed to follow its example, and the industry has since profited far more from focusing on individual characters than on their stories. Evangelion caused a shift in the entire industry, and people sought to gain as much money as Gainax did with its mountains of merchandise. It stopped being useful as a way to delineate a genre, especially because a lot of its proposed criteria were routinely deviated from. Even the foremost principle isn't very specific, because maPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

>sekaikei is a "genre" of post-Evangelion animanga and again it is nebulous at best,
>the term has now rightly lost both meaning and form as a word.
If all those things are "Sekai-kei" I'm not sure what similarities they have to each other. I guess you've succeeded because I have no idea!

>>6955
>The defining, eponymous feature of sekai-kei is that the characters' inner world is massively extended to the point of becoming as important as the external world, or more so.
Hmm, this I can understand a bit. Lots of inner monologues and stuff of that nature. It's not really a narrative thing I'm a fan of, as I think it focuses too much on listing what characters are thinking instead of showing their thoughts through actions.

At the start of the season, I was expecting Meshi Umashi to be another boring food anime that I'd drop quickly, but it's been one of the best PA Works shows in a while. The random off-topic segments that make up the majority of it are funny with entertaining characters going through normal excitements like accidentally hopping on the freeway or failing to 1pl8 at the gym and even the wonderfully rare food stuff is worked into the plot to focus more on the joy of eating instead of just animating a cooking video.

Girls and their pathetic attempts to be thin are powerless in the face of a good American burg.

Just platinum'd SANABI and it's probably one of my favorite games that I've played all year, though it came out a while ago. It's a 2D indie platformer-ish based almost entirely around grappling movement. I didn't have too much trouble with it outside of my most recent playthrough where I played on hitless difficulty, but it does have the makings of a game that could give some people trouble with getting through it if you're really not good. Though I'd say it's definitely worth toughing it out, as the story for it may seem a bit cheesy cyberpunk at first, but as it unravels it blooms into something I'd say is quite beautiful by the end. Nearly moved me to tears by the final scene. If you've got some spare change, give it a chance and pick it up, supposedly there's a DLC coming soon starring the Major.

Soundtrack's pretty great too which helps while you're trying to get through the levels: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBhYIxpS5Gg

It's because they completely fucked up the basics of background and foreground separation (which seems to be a lost art these days) -- the characters are dull and unremarkable, while backgrounds are bright, flashy and also animated, completely the opposite of what it should be.

Yeah, I tried playing it on a controller at first and it seemed pretty good up until I got to the first training room. At that point it told me there was a record and I saw on the achievements tab one for beating that record and soon enough I realized that with the slightly more inaccurate controller aim I wouldn't be able to pull off that achievement. But it's pretty intuitive on the mouse when you actually get down to playing with it. In retrospect even though I died a bunch on legend it was still way easier than any of the Lunatic runs I've been trying to do.

 No.6868[Reply]

But why is there so much importance placed on idoling in an anime that's mainly about horsegirl racing? It definitely seems like the passion of the writers lies in telling their own dramatic anthropomorphized parallels to real world horses, so the idol stuff in comparison always comes off as a bit of just some extra thrown in for necessities sake. Although I can't say I haven't enjoyed some of the songs in the past.

 No.6869

File:[Erai-raws] Uma Musume - C….jpg (390.11 KB,1920x1080)

I assume it's a nod to the source material or something? "Yeah, we remember you guys! Remember this?"
Uma Musume is a very popular gacha, obviously, and the stuff I've seen uploaded about it seems heavy on interactions between the girls and the trainer or coach or whatever the player is supposed to be. Girls looking cute/sexy and dancing is definitely part of the gacha playbook.
I liked Oguri Cap's original dance, it showed her awkwardness and stuff but I guess this is part of character growth and becoming a real Uma Musume. But, she lost part of her soul... I guess that's the idol thing. I hope she's able to hold on to her quirks.

 No.6877

i don't know how it is in the games but we've seen it tied directly to oguri's development AND it's clearly there to appeal to otaku who are into the ideal of the multiperformer idol
it's not that important, most of the biggest developments took place either in a race or right after it and before the idoling, the act itself doesn't take up much time, more of a symbolic thing

 No.6881

Concerts were an important part of season 2.
Teio's initial victory concert was foreshadowing both Teio's continual struggle with injury and her evolving interpretation of fortune and fate. The interruption of her goodbye concert was what led to her trying one more time. And concerts show off Teio's dancing ability, which was also a characteristic of her IRL counterpart.

I'm finding this show quite... bland, but I don't mean that as a negative. It doesn't feel "anime-like" if that makes sense, especially when you remove the usual CGDCT interactions from the equation - much of the first episode and the latest one felt like a regular travel show that my mother might watch in her free time. I'm not surprised that this is autobiographical.

But again, that's not necessarily a bad thing. If anything, at least it's a pretty nice show to watch while eating.

Yeah...
Just generally annoyed by culture/colonization mechanics.
I've been thinking on a hyper-autistic detailed version of what I'd do if I were making a mod or something
Might describe it here later
Also annoyed how sometimes countries will take land in a way that makes their empire or the enemy empire non-contiguous. I feel like that should be discouraged by the AI.

Colonization as a mechanic has just been completely destroyed by them adding so much native shit. You really only take the ideas to get coring range and then just conquer whatever you want. It was way worse before the last patch because you could annex tribal land instead of just the province that was currently occupied so you could grab the entire east coast before your first colony finished settling. I really hope they learned their lesson about native spam for EUV.

Map gore is historically accurate.

Yeah but they inherited that, they didn't take (most of) it through peace treaties.
