How much realism can be sacrificed for narrative convenience? I'm really liking Ninja to Koroshiya, but it's kind of difficult to understand what's going on when 90% of the characters don't have any distinguishing physical traits. I get that its for authenticity, but I feel like the show would be improved if they gave them all distinct designs, or even some subtle accessories or something, so that the audience can tell them apart.

Yep, I don't understand what the HELL is going on. Episode 3 of S2 just turned up the craziness and stuff I don't understand to 11. I feel like I could post spoilers and it wouldn't actually be spoilers because it's so out there. I have no idea what's going on! No, the OP pic is not a spoiler because you see stuff like this all the time. It still has the great music and visuals of S1, too.
Is anyone else watching it?

Alright, other person on kissu that watches this: did you see it coming? That was... wow. So much of it makes sense now and I need to rewatch it. I think I should host a stream of season 1 and 2 of this sometime this year. If this came out 20 years ago people would be making threads of it today, but since it came out today it's going to be forgotten about with only a handful of people having seen it. The downside of 60 translated shows coming out every season.
Good music this episode, too. Good job, New Zealand guy.

I guess if you want to be spoiled for something you don't plan to watch, I can do that. Maybe writing this up will help me understand things.
This is a rather gross oversimplification, but...

Belle, the protag, is called the Girl of Reason and she explores a world of magic and demihumans. They regularly engage in orchestrated battles and speak of God, who is real, and use lots of flowery speech about things. Swords are alive and a part of people and blahblahblah. Lots of cool worldbuilding. It's full of symbolism and hints of things for you to connect the dots. It's a really fantastic atmosphere that brings you into another world.

If you REALLY want all of this worldbuilding to be ruined for you so you can't experience the story as intended, then...

Do you REALLY want it ruined? Well, okay. No seems interested in this show anyway. If only it came out in 2002 people would judge others for not watching it decades later and I could stream it and have 30 people show up.

Belle is seemingly the last human around. Humanity escaped into the outer universe after doing what humans tend to do to Earth and for some reason Belle's escape pod crashed into the moon. The moon was home to a theme park with a central computer AI. The park was prepared to shut down/self destruct, effectively "die" because humans weren't around. Well, Belle gave them a Reason to exist. The theme park animatronics engaged in battles with their mechanical bodies being destroyed, an explanation to why the battles Belle sees in the present day seem so bizarre. But Belle quickly rejected their machine intelligences as fake and ran away. To prevent rejection and the annihilation of the park she was imprisoned and kept alive eternally in stasis. After what must be a great period of time Belle wakes up to see the advancement of the world and its machine god that have "evolved" in an attempt to become real and presumably avoid rejection by humans (who are considered old gods). The old animatronics of this modern world were replaced by flesh and blood demihumans of similar shape and the central computer is an eldritch god.

I missed a bunch and maybe made a couple mistakes (hopefully not), but that's the gist of the big reveal. You can piece together a bunch of it as the story progresses, but I don't think most people would pick up on the specPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

>they're on the simple side of things.
It's an odd situation where there's a lot of mechanical depth with the absorption powers and a lot of effort goes into the level design on an aesthetic level but the challenges are generally very basic. It's a neat way to keep the games easy enough for small children while still giving enough toys to play with to keep an older audience engaged.

>challenges are generally very basic
Most of the challenge in Kirby games, at least the more modern ones, comes from the true arena boss rush at the end of the game. They're all genuinely challenging and arguably the main appeal of the games for more experienced players.
The main game is usually great too but it's more about spectacle and getting familiar with the different powers and mechanics.

 No.7333

There's some personal challenge stuff you can do, too, like winning using only specific powerups or stuff like that. I never really cared for that, but it's something people do. To me Kirby games are a thing I do to relax and just enjoy the music and cute atmosphere. It's like a Slice of Life anime in video game form.
It often includes a lot of minigames, too, which can be strangely good for being minigames.

A Kirby thread? On kissu? I must be dreaming!

But the reason why Kirby doesn't just fly out of the endless pits, is because he's too focused on what he's going to eat that day, and which friends he should invite to eat together! He zones out thinking about that, and only realizes what happened when he's already splattered on the floor

That, and he's too lazy to fly all the way back up

from what I played of 1, its a pretty tough game that demands that you pre-plan your fights and abuse finishing attacks with the heat gauge. I also tried the remake Kiwami 1 and while it follows the originals direction, it injects a lot of back story and makes the fights with the original games combat a bit more cumbersome when having to use the yakuza 0 fighting styles instead, which is pretty jarring.

 No.6711[Reply]

This latest episode of Apocalypse Hotel is what it should have been from the start.
I checked the new releases for today, saw that new Apocalypse Hotel episode was out, almost didn't want to watch it; but this episode was good. Starting off strong with the 'cooners leaving the hotel, then a new guest arrives who actually bonds with Yachiyo, and even shows us what the post apocalyptic world looks like. It reminded me of "Somali to Mori no Kamisama".
There was almost no racoons this episode, but the times when they showed the girl racoon really broke the immersion into what was going on between Yachiyo and the new guest. Racoons were the worst thing that happened to the show.

I think the growth of Ponko from a side character to the new head of the hotel has been a nice arc. It's allowed her to go from a more annoying side-kick to an actually dependable semi-owner. Yachiyo's more incapable body now somewhat represents a stepping down of her own that lends to a more natural handing over of the reigns while they still greatly respect her for her work and she keeps a smaller role.

For an original it's doing quite well to keep its strength throughout and not let itself wander into too wacky territory. Remaining a bit somber still throughout RIP Mujina ;_;7 though with that faint glimmer of hope for the revitalization of civilization, not through humanity, but the Tanuki. I've quite fallen in love with it over this season and that's not too common when the natural tendency of a show is to decline, guess that's what happens when you have a competent director/writer heading the project. Which is made all the better when you realize this is Shundou Kana's first true directorial debut after having done assistant direction for so long, another name to keep note of.

This and Uchouten Kazoku show that there's great promise in the Tanuki genre.

You know what I've learned? It takes talent to make a dumb harem show. The Shiunji siblings show is far better than it has any right to be, and that's because there's real talent behind it. Also I want to say this show has been surprisingly emotional the past few episodes. Minami's tennis arc was really good. Shed some tears, it was just so well done.
So apart from the sexiness and quasi-incest harem part (if you learned someone wasn't blood related you'd still see them as a sibling for a very long time) it's actually surprisingly well crafted in regards to the characters. Quite emotional for an ecchi show.

What show, game or manga do you refuse to engage with and why? I refuse to watch the EVA rebuilds because I have no interest in them, I believe The End of Evangelion was the perfect ending and I see no point in watching past that. Similarly, I haven't seen the Madoka Magica sequel nor played the gacha game released last year for the same reason.
I also refuse to watch the new Higurashi show because I hate the Rika redesign and because I don't see the point on it.
