I cannot tell you how absolutely massive the new GiTS feels. Not only is it doing the first seemingly faithful adaptation of the manga, but the studio behind it is Yuasa's baby and the director seems to have been learning throughout his whole career from Yuasa. So when you combine that promising new talent with the budget it looks like this remake is going to have, my expectations are absolutely sky-high.

Since you guys are talking about getter, the manga is the best way to get the story, right? It doesn't really have any straight adaptations from what I know

>>4525 I'm certainly no Getter aficionado, but I'd say so
My introduction to the series was Armageddon which left me very confused on a few things
Reading by release order cleared a lot of my questions up but iirc at least two of the manga I read were not fully translated (or maybe the manga got cancelled?) and left me with more questions. The only one I remember getting to the objective end was Devolution. I'm way overdue for a reread of the whole series, which I'll get to soon
Anonymous 04/22/25 (Tue) 02:12:50 No. 4527 >>4530
>>4525 Yeah, it's like comparing the Devilman manga to its anime, they're in no way the same thing as the anime is a monster of the week show for kids because that's what anime was back then. They also stay a bit similar in art style for the first two Getter Robos, but by Gou the artstyle gets a complete upgrade and the designs are just superb. It's also a far darker story in the manga that turns somewhat horrific as the story progresses into later stories especially when you get to
Getter Emperor. I spent an entire week just reading it by myself when I'd decided I was going to get into it and I seriously enjoyed myself that week.

Anonymous 04/22/25 (Tue) 17:23:29 No. 4529 >>4530
>>4525 Yes. The "closest" faithful animated adaptation of the mangas is New Getter which is a reimagining amalgation of OG, Getter G and Shin Getter. It's still largely original and deviates a lot from the stories but I think it's a great introduction to get the idea of what Getter is about, plus a pretty good tribute to the author.
I recommend to read all the way til Shin. Arc isn't bad at all but what happened to it is the equivalent of Dragon Ball abruptly ending when Goku turns Super Saiyan because Toriyama suddenly had a heart attack and never gave notes on how to end the story.

Gkwcks is mecha fan disservice. You can't see anything in space battles due to pseudorealistic CGI where G-Reco had the balls to fix that with stylization. Battle sakuga is absent and sensibility of fight movements is worse than in 0079. The sense of weight and momentum are underwhelming. The Gundams are just too unsightly so that you want to rub your eyes on any keyframe or closeup shot involving them. The pacing, cam view changes, scene shifts are too hamfisted and forced for the presented subject matter: as typical of "post-gainax," you can take the characters and the plot neither seriously nor carefree (still not as bad as Diebuster). That's what defining of hack works where the direction is aiming for impressionism while being afraid of self-commitment.

>>5593 I agree with this. I enjoy the non-mecha visuals, but I can't tell what the hell is going on in the battles. Episode 3's battle was in the black absolute darkness of space which made it very confusing. When the backdrop isn't literally pure black they're surrounded by glowing auras and there's a lot of static poses being drawn out like clip related. It's just not pleasing to watch.
>pseudorealistic CGI Yeah. It's a very physics-based rendering way of doing the visuals. I guess they're taking influence from the 3D software. Something can't be visible without a light source. It's weird to see alongside characters with faces that can't exist in 3D space.
