Kissu's Palworld server is now online!

[link-ommited][link-ommited]:8211

We last played in January and there's been some big patches since then. For those who don't know, it's a third person building/Pokemon capturing game. I think the term is "open world crafting survival" or something, but it's Japanese so it's cute and quirky. People called it "Pokemon with guns", which is kind of true for the atmosphere but it's more than that.
For those that did play last time, here's the patch notes for the second major patch: https://[link-ommited][link-ommited]

Since switching from IT to Dev Manager, I’ve realized the insane amount of bureaucratic processes we have to follow (this is just related to dev performance, I have hundreds of other processes I have to follow daily).

- Monthly self-eval: Devs must submit a detailed monthly self-evaluation
- Manager evaluation: Dev’s manager evaluates them monthly too.
- Weekly team evaluation: Dev's direct manager evaluates the "team" as a single unit every week.
- Quarterly upper management review: The direct manager’s manager steps in every quarter to assess the team as well.
- Each dev's “buddy” (more senior dev they're partnered with) performs a monthly evaluation of their performance too
- TL assesses sprint quality after each sprint.
- TL's manager reviews sprint quality too (non-technical manager)

Now, management expects me to sift through all this data weekly toghether with Jira to identify any "underperformers". They don’t see the redundancy—they just want more.
When I pointed out that the sheer volume of surveys and performance checks is beyond redundant, my manager brushed it off, accusing me of trying to "work less."
In his eyes, productivity means creating more processes. Only colleagues who add extra layers of bureaucracy get rewarded, never those who streamline.
Am I being a baby?
Feeling disillusioned... Is this really what management is supposed to be?
Because if so, I’m tempted to just go wild creating even more pointless processes—like they seem to want—and drown everyone in surveys and meaningless reports.

Interest in the Composition of Japanese Visual Media

I've noticed that there's a bit of talk here and there at times about big named directors like Shinbo or Ikuhara in threads about there respective anime. Similarly there's "the /qa/ voice" and a few threads in the past made about favorite seiyuu's. With the more recent Seiyuu Radio thread I got a bit more interested in asking /qa/, how much do you pay attention to who's making the anime you enjoy and how conscious of their work are you while watching?

For myself I mostly know seiyuu, studios, composers, singers, and directors since those are more the big in your face part of anime, but I also can recognize a few character designers like Akio Watanabe/Amazuyu Tatsuki. I also know a few (non-director) animators by name, though I can't really tell who's who from just watching an anime like it's occasionally possible to do with directors/studios. Not even sure if it is possible.

Maybe it's a bit meta for some people, but I think it can be valuable and give you a greater appreciation of anime you really enjoy or lead you to finding other works with them included that you may also love. It can also be an interesting experience to go through the catalog of a director to watch how they grew over the years. A similar thing applies to seiyuu, and with them there's also the feeling of hearing a new voice you don't recognize that absolutely hits it out of the park and astounds you, like Utena from MahoAko.

What filetypes will last the longest?

Somebody told me that digitization will let us preserve things forever, but I feel like it's the opposite because of how complicated accessing digital data is and how fast technological systems evolve. Old formats get superseded by updated ones and niche platform-specific ones get abandoned when that platform does. We can look at a wall relief from 5000 years ago and work out an approximation of what it was saying just by looking at it, but how would you get any data out of a floppy filled with files for a program that hasn't been updated in 100 years?

Eventually the effort of maintaining compatibility with old things is going to cause data to be effectively lost, but some formats will obviously last longer than others. Personally, I think the humble [link-ommited] file will outlast most others because its simple, yet vitally important to many basic computing tasks so you can't easily get rid of it and there's not much incentive to improve the format. That said, I could also see a specialized format that is used for something like [link-ommited] which is used pretty much just to preserve old data being maintained by enthusiasts while more general-purpose formats get killed off to force people to adopt newer ones. Which ones do you think will pass the test of time and which will be be the quickest to die out?

Cool Software?

Do you use any software that other people may not know about that you like?
I started using (and eventually even bought!) this thing called Wallpaper Slideshow after trying a bunch of free ones and getting frustrated. https://[link-ommited][link-ommited][link-ommited]
Basically, you give it folder(s) of your choice and it will assemble a collage image of them and make it your background. You can configure it with a timer that changes it and I have it set to 15 minutes. I had originally used John's Background Switcher that someone thankfully linked to me a few months ago: >>91800 https://[link-ommited]/
I liked this one more because there's less wasted space, more options, and it just generally seems to assemble the image better. I turn it off before I go to bed each night though because I'm worried that it's keeping my hard drive active all day, which probably isn't good. I should maybe research that sometime...

This pairs well with something like Grabber ( https://[link-ommited]-grabber ) that can bulk download tags from booru sites.
Of course, this stuff is kind of wasteful if you don't have an extra monitor with a wallpaper that's largely visible, but I find myself like that sometimes so it's pretty nice.

There is a seperate porn subbreddit for transgender women. When i go to a subreddit for fememine men, I expect feminene men, not women. Technology and media further amplify the importance of “happened” in contemporary society. News outlets constantly report on breaking developments, framing headlines around recent occurrences: “X Happened Today.” Social media platforms perpetuate this cycle by encouraging users to share snapshots of their lives, chronicling what transpired during any given hour. Memes, tweets, and status updates serve as digital markers of modern experience, ensuring that nothing fades into obscurity before being documented and disseminated globally. While this phenomenon fosters connectivity, it also raises questions about authenticity and permanence, challenging traditional understandings of memory and legacy.

Despite its widespread usage, the word “happened” occasionally faces criticism for oversimplification. Critics argue that reducing complex phenomena to mere happenings strips away nuance and depth, glossing over intricate details that deserve closer scrutiny. After all, wars don’t simply “happen”—they arise from years of political maneuvering, socioeconomic disparities, and ideological clashes. Likewise, relationships don’t abruptly end because something “happened”; rather, underlying issues accumulate until resolution feels impossible. Recognizing these limitations encourages us to approach the word thoughtfully, balancing brevity with thoroughness whenever possible.

Ultimately, the word “happened” occupies a unique position in our linguistic repertoire, bridging the gap between past and present, simplicity and complexity, certainty and ambiguity. Its adaptability ensures relevance across contexts, from scientific inquiry to artistic endeavor. Yet, beneath its unassuming facade lies a wealth of implications waiting to be explored. So, the next time you find yourself uttering or hearing the phrase, take a moment to reflect on its significance. What exactly *did* happen? And why does it matter? Through such contemplation, we deepen our appreciation for both language and life itself.

mod edit: now in dropdown form# The Multifaceted Meaning of "Happening": An Exploration of Its Linguistic, Cultural, and Philosophical Dimensions

## Introduction

The word *happening* is a versatile term that transcends simple definitions. It functions as a noun, an adjective, and even a cultural phenomenon, adapting to various contexts—linguistic, artistic, and social. Its meanings range from describing an event or occurrence to signifying something trendy or avant-garde. This essay explores the etymology, grammatical functions, cultural significance, and philosophical implications of *happening*, demonstrating how a single word can encapsulate diverse human experiences.

## Etymology and Grammatical Functions

### 1. As a Noun: An Event or Occurrence
Derived from the verb *happen*, which originates from the Old Norse *happ* (meaning "luck" or "chance"), *happening* initially referred to an event or incident. In this sense, it denotes anything that takes place, whether planned or spontaneous. For example:
- *"The concert was a major happening in the city."*

This usage remains prevalent in everyday language, emphasizing the unpredictability and dynamism of life.

### 2. As an Adjective: Trendy or Significant
In the mid-20th century, *happening* evolved into slang, describing something fashionable, exciting, or culturally relevant. For instance:
- *"That new café is the happening spot in town."*

This connotation reflects societal shifts toward valuing novelty and social buzz, particularly in youth culture.

### 3. As a Verb (Gerund): The Process of Occurring
In its gerund form, *happening* describes the act of taking place:
- *"Change is always happening, whether we notice it or not."*
Here, it underscores continuous action, reinforcing the fluid nature of existence.

## Cultural Significance: The Happening as an Artistic Movement

Beyond its linguistic roles, *happening* became a defining concept in 20th-century avant-garde art. Coined in the late 1950s by artist Allan Kaprow, *Happenings* were experimental, often spontaneous performances that blurred the lines between art and life. These events emphasized audience participation, unpredictability, and multimedia elements.

### Key Characteristics of Artistic Happenings:
- Improvisation: Unlike traditional theater, Happenings lacked scripts, relying on chance interactions.
- Multidisciplinary: They combined visual art, music, dance, and poetry.
- Ephemerality: Each Happening was unique, resisting reproduction or commodification.

This movement influenced later performance art, flash mobs, and even digital-age participatory events.

## Philosophical Implications: The Nature of Happenings

Philosophically, *happening* invites reflection on reality’s transient nature. Existentialists like Jean-Paul Sartre argued that existence precedes essence—meaning life is a series of *happenings* without predetermined purpose. Similarly, Buddhist philosophy emphasizes impermanence (*anicca*), viewing reality as a continuous flow of events.

### Happenings in Modern Media and Technology
Today, social media platforms amplify the concept of *happenings*—viral trends, live streams, and global events unfold in real-time, shaping collective consciousness. The term now extends to digital phenomena, where something "happening" gains instant cultural relevance.

## Conclusion

The word *happening* is a linguistic chameleon, adapting to grammatical, artistic, and philosophical contexts. From describing mundane events to embodying radical art forms, it captures the essence of change, spontaneity, and cultural evolution. Whether as a noun, adjective, or gerund, *happening* reminds us that life is an ever-unfolding series of moments—some planned, many unexpected—but all integral to the human experience.

The word "happened" is one of those small yet powerful words that often slips into our conversations, writings, and thoughts without much notice. It carries an air of inevitability, as if to suggest that events unfold according to some unseen script or natural order. When we say something “happened,” it implies a sense of finality—an event has occurred, and there’s no going back to alter its course. This simple past-tense verb encapsulates moments in time, freezing them for reflection, analysis, or storytelling. Whether used in casual conversation or formal writing, the word serves as a bridge between what was anticipated and what actually transpired, allowing us to make sense of life's unpredictable turns.

Throughout history, countless things have happened—some monumental, others mundane—that collectively shape human existence. Wars broke out and ended; empires rose and fell; inventions transformed societies; friendships formed and dissolved; dreams were realized and shattered. Each instance marked by the word “happened” holds significance within its context, whether personal or universal. For example, consider how historians describe pivotal events like the fall of the Berlin Wall: they might say, “It happened overnight.” Such phrasing underscores not only the suddenness but also the profound impact of the event itself. In this way, “happened” becomes more than just a verb—it transforms into a lens through which we view change, progress, and even tragedy.

In everyday language, people frequently use the word when recounting their day-to-day experiences. Someone might casually remark, “Guess what happened at work today!” The excitement or frustration behind such statements reveals the emotional weight attached to seemingly ordinary occurrences. A spilled cup of coffee, an unexpected compliment from a colleague, or a delayed train can all be described with the same word: happened. These minor episodes may seem trivial on their own, but together, they form the mosaic of daily life. They remind us that every moment, no matter how insignificant it appears, contributes to the larger narrative of who we are and where we’re headed.

On a deeper level, the word “happened” invites introspection about causality and responsibility. When something unfortunate occurs, we instinctively ask, “How did this happen?” This question seeks to uncover the chain of events leading up to the outcome, assigning meaning and perhaps accountability. Did someone make a mistake? Was it purely bad luck? Or could it have been avoided altogether? Conversely, when good fortune smiles upon us, we might wonder why it happened, attributing success to hard work, destiny, or divine intervention. By examining these occurrences through the prism of “happened,” we begin to piece together patterns and lessons that guide future decisions.

The versatility of the word extends beyond individual anecdotes to encompass broader philosophical discussions. Philosophers and scientists alike grapple with questions surrounding determinism versus free will, pondering whether everything that happens is preordained or shaped entirely by choice. If the universe operates according to fixed laws, then every action and reaction follows a predictable trajectory, making the notion of randomness questionable. On the other hand, proponents of free will argue that humans possess agency, implying that while certain factors influence outcomes, individuals ultimately decide their paths. Regardless of which perspective resonates more strongly, the word “happened” remains central to articulating these debates, bridging abstract ideas with tangible realities.

Moreover, the term plays a crucial role in literature and creative expression. Writers rely on it to craft compelling narratives, using it as a tool to propel plots forward and evoke emotions in readers. Consider a suspenseful novel where tension builds gradually until the climactic moment arrives: “And then it happened.” Those four words alone carry immense power, signaling a turning point that keeps audiences engaged. Similarly, poets employ “happened” to convey fleeting beauty or poignant loss, capturing ephemeral sensations in concise verses. Through artful manipulation of language, creators harness the evocative potential of this humble verb to resonate deeply with their audience.

Interestingly, cultural differences can influence how the concept of “happening” is perceived and communicated. In Western societies, there tends to be a focus on individual agency and linear progression, emphasizing cause-and-effect relationships. As a result, phrases like “This is what happened next” align neatly with prevailing worldviews. Meanwhile, Eastern philosophies often embrace cyclical notions of time and interconnectedness, viewing events less as isolated incidents and more as part of a continuous flow. Here, too, the word adapts seamlessly, accommodating diverse interpretations while retaining its core function of describing temporal shifts.

On one hand these altchans are calm, no Israeli and Indian spammers, but i kinda miss the fast shitposting boards
Like the /r9k/ threads on tfw no gf stories
And /v/ posts by hyperborean anon and vidya butts (they won thoughbeit)
Also discussing the anime episodes released today on /a/ and anons posting screenshots and webms of it

Screaming and crying about "ack" unprovoked = ruining threads and triggered

Telling !-Akemi to stop shitpositng and spamming threads = making threads better and calm.

Who or what linked you here? You can't have arrived here more than a few hours ago, given there was mention of you in a different thread and you didn't show up.
