In response to the discussion in
>>>/b/13365 and years lingering thoughts on my and Vern's end, we're considering creating a new board for more serious media discussion, /av/ - AudioVisual media (emphasis on the a and v) that can fix a few of the problems we've had with the way /qa/ and /jp/ have been structured for a long while (for V's take read
>>>/b/13495)
The benefits of this are:
¥Easier to access and search through media discussion¥A more convenient and familiar access point for people to integrate through¥Facilitating more serious discussion¥Eliminating some confusion about board purpose during thread creation and reducing negative board chaos¥Killing megathread generals¥Kissu is /all/, and /all/ is Kissu, /av/ moderation will be treated no differently from the rest of the site and /av/ is not being treated as an easy way to capture refugees, this is a long term fix to a long term problemThe /poll/'s outcome will be lightly considered.
No.6181
Uh, just to clarify here. I am concerned about board bloat.
But I want to fix how our site is so hard to understand by relocating a bunch of threads and dealing with the consequences later.
A board helps fix that
No.6182
messed up the tag somehow

What would differentiate /av/ from /jp/ if someone were to want to post about the new anime season? Is that /av/ because anime discussion or /jp/ because it'd be also Japanese media?
No.6188
>>6186/jp/ is funposting, /av/ would not be
No.6189
Again, he doesn't say it in the most simplest of terms... it would be a lot more like how a /a/ board is laid out where shows have threads.
Where it gets tricky is like what if someone made a sakarufish thread? Is that now /jp/ for 2drandom or not? In which case we go back to being agents of chaos

Frankly it seems like you're avoiding the topic of what we have to do when people don't understand that a /av/ board is for anime discussion and decide to use it to post funny things.
You think that because you understand it's purpose other people will and just ramble on about it's usecases without the specific implementation details
No.6203
>>6201If it's posted on /av/? Yes.
We could probably just start writing out a sticky now that will preemptively solve all these issues since it seems like you're confused or think others will be. I don't really think it's that hard to distinguish funpost, lighthearted post, serious post, serious topic-specific post, and general.

>>6207A little bit of minor overlap is fine. Anyways where people post their threads will naturally fall into place as the boards evolve.
No.6209
it'll all work out by the goodwill of a community going so fast we can't do anything in our normal life to maintain the strict order we set out to create..
No.6210
it doesn't sound like you've thought through the aspects of how it should be moderated and are actively rejecting the thought that we have to start categorizing everything in order to achieve the goals of a dedicated multimedia board
No.6211
I say the latter because the overlap between /qa/ and this av board is considered as not a problem even though /qa/ is the main culprit to the issues
No.6212
Until you actually have a plan for what to do about each active /qa/ thread that gets bumped which falls into the categories of videogame and animation this plan will just fail and cause a blight on our reputation
No.6213
For example, the mariokart thread. You are too afraid to actually move it into this /av/ board because it's active. It is certainly /av/ content. The sven thread on /qa/. That has to be moved too
No.6214
So much of /qa/ has to be moved to fullfill the objective and you are not committed to potentially killing the site to actually make a /av/ board work
No.6215
>>6212If you want me to be organizational autist I can easily do that. And no it doesn't. Event threads can be a specific exception because they're not about discussing media so much as gathering people together for fun. How this doesn't make sense to you is beyond me and I have to assume you're just looking at if there's an anime character or game screenshot and saying "Yup, that's /av/" which makes no sense.
No.6216
The chinese media thread should be moved too, right? I don't see moving a lot of threads at once a problem but maybe some anons might dislike it. Definetly would need better categorization, possibly specifying what /qa/ should actually be about without losing its essence.

No.6230
>>6229Yeah,. but I'm getting confused from him now because he's saying that /jp/ is supposed to be 2D random.
So we'd be keeping /qa/ as having the event threads such as the Sven or SonicKart.
But we'd have a board actively discussing AV
But toys are not considered AV so they should be on /qa/.
It's getting kind of insane in my opinion and he's getting angry and me for not getting it
No.6231
>>6230I kinda get it, AV would be exclisively for audiovisual media. No memes, no community projects. I imagine he envisions something like Lainchan's /vis/ board:

>>6231Yes, I follow with what /av/ is. It's a general thread board where anyone who makes a new thread has it deleted or moved elsewhere.
But now we have to ask the question >>>/jp/89905 is this too wordy for a /jp/ thread? Should random boards even be moderated? What about overlapping /qa/ content?
It's so many annoying questions and from what I gather speaking with him, he wants everyone to understand where japanese language threads go, where does the chinese language thread goes, where buyfag threads go, where

¥/jp/ fun only, never serious. only fun. there will be so much fun. you are not allowed to not have fun. HAVE FUN!!! (or else)
¥/qa/ srs busines random you can have some fun but not too much fun
¥/av/ super duper serious business entertainment but also you have to put toys and novels in srs business random because its a bit too fun but we also cant have too much fun there because then it needs to be in jp where you must have fun
Got it. I agree with these decisions because it will cause even more confusion to newfriends.

And yet again, not using a name to make it easy for people to follow who has authority and who is just providing general advice.
We just want to throw another board onto the heap and hope it works out. Why will it work out? Because it just will.
No.6250
Sweeping the issue of overlapping content... /qa/ is a serious board but /av/ is also a serious board and /jp/ is not serious, but it can be kind of semi serious, and if we decide not to moderate as hard then /av/ is also semi serious

No.6254
/av/ would overlap with /qa/. The board list may be confusing for newcomers but implementing this would create even more confusion in my opinion. Deleting/merging/renaming and listing some boards might clear it though.
No.6255
>>6254That's why we'd move everything....
No.6256
ok, well let me just try and state the issues as I see them while you're out.
1) I understand what /av/ is. It's supposed to be a serious board for all the boring /a/ posters and a more controlled /v/ board where we delete everything /v/ is known for. OK. So it doesn't have event threads, but you're making the bold assumption that people will not make these threads there and that they have to be moved to another random location that other people don't want separated from the board they use. You are going on the assumption that everyone treats kissu as the same as /all/ and that's not always going to be the case and will be what makes the site confusing.
No.6257
Address the issue of people who actually will focus on a single board and try to treat it as a homeboard
No.6259
>>6252It's not that clear at a quick glance what each board would be intended.
I think I understand what you're going for now and I hope it will confuse people due to the naming schemes being 2d/random, 2d/random, and 2d/media, but considering some people probably don't want /qa/ flooded with seasonal anime threads and it's getting harder to make normal threads on /jp/ it makes sense to add /av/. I'll disagree that it's super obvious though. Put yourself in the shoes of the new posters.
No.6260
hmm I might just make all my threads on /jp/ and mods can move them if they want
No.6261
>>6258The overlap is really a problem. That's what people are saying
No.6262

Why do we want to have 3 boards to discuss things relating to japanese culture.
No.6263
>>6259>Put yourself in the shoes of the new posters.I did and that's why I said the board probably needs a perpetual sticky outlining it and probably we need a way to include manga/novels/vns too. Really the name is annoying.

Yeah, we're kinda just going to try and piss everyone off for a couple of days while we restructure, but you can just assume that whatever was on /qa/ relating to japanese entertainment will be on /amv/.
Then /qa/ will be what remains, the meta, real world, blogging. etc.
So now people who come here will know a lot easier that anime/manga/etc. has a dedicated space and /jp/ is for random stuff. And we can have a bit of overlap as people want. But boobhu is definetly not /amv/.

>>6202>Frankly it seems like you're avoiding the topic of what we have to do when people don't understand that a /av/ board is for anime discussion and decide to use it to post funny things.I don't think this is an issue based on what I've seen in /a/ across its various forms on different imageboards including 4chan in recent times. The /a/ name is synonymous with generals and "condense your threads" thinking. What we need to fight against is the instinct for people to live inside individual threads and starting to identify with them instead of kissu. I'd say a rule would be that OP has to start a conversation in the thread and needs to stay engaged with it for a bit. No plopping a "ANIME NAME" thread down and walking away to wait for other people to make something of it. OP's job has always been to start an interaction.
Ideally this board would have posts and screenshots/video that inspires people to make /jp/ threads the way IRC can lead to kissu threads. If people see something in a show/game with broad appeal, especially if it's something simple and dumb, the instinct needs to be to make a /jp/ thread and not to post in the discussion thread. "I didn't think it was worth a thread" is a thought process that will pop up.
Also we need to make it clear that dumb threads on /jp/ can and should lead to discussion. Yes, this means not all discussion of a show or game will be in the serious thread and that's good. Use kissu as a whole site! I've been told I should write up a sticky so I'm going to end my post here, but it will be similar to this post I think.

>>6339I don't mind it too much. Been here long enough that my perception on necroposting threads changed. If it's still relevant or you have something to add then why not post in it? It comes back up to the front page and discussion can get rolling on it again.
For example the toss up reminded me that
>>>/amv/1427 existed and I gave it a post. Provided I actually follow through with what I said I'll post about things I find I like or dislike about the game, and maybe others will try it too, I'm sure the kuonfag here would appreciate more people talking about her.

The bigger issue we've had is worrywarts thinking /qa/ threads have immense and eternal value and not making new threads because they're afraid of knocking off ancient threads nobody has used in forever.
