 No.6180[View All]

In response to the discussion in >>>/b/13365 and years lingering thoughts on my and Vern's end, we're considering creating a new board for more serious media discussion, /av/ - AudioVisual media (emphasis on the a and v) that can fix a few of the problems we've had with the way /qa/ and /jp/ have been structured for a long while (for V's take read >>>/b/13495)

The benefits of this are:
¥Easier to access and search through media discussion
¥A more convenient and familiar access point for people to integrate through
¥Facilitating more serious discussion
¥Eliminating some confusion about board purpose during thread creation and reducing negative board chaos
¥Killing megathread generals
¥Kissu is /all/, and /all/ is Kissu, /av/ moderation will be treated no differently from the rest of the site and /av/ is not being treated as an easy way to capture refugees, this is a long term fix to a long term problem

The /poll/'s outcome will be lightly considered.

Also someone quick think up a name for the board that fits the lettering theme of /av/ which conveys a quick indication, or is /av/, that can contain manga as well

thank you for compiling this.

I'll have a look. I think I have to sleep for a bit too.
And B (who should really rename himself to 7 because it's a way better moniker) also has some chores to do it seems

If you mean /av/ as an /a/ + /v/ (as in videogames not the actual 4/v/) then manga would fit there too but if /av/ stands for audiovisual then manga isn't AV. Manga, like music, would be relegated to /qa/. That's why I sugested making it a hobby board instead because manga wouldn't fit an audiovisual board.

As much as I love watching modfights, the first point here is the only one that actually needs thread moving to work and even that will become a non-issue in a few days once /jp/ refreshes and new threads fill up the new board. I might request a couple of my threads get moved there but I don't expect comprehensive cleanups or anything. I think people will get a feel for what goes where pretty quickly, all you guys really need to do is lock the generals and do the same autism moves you already do when something triggers your OCD.

I thought it was audio (inclusive or) visual

 No.6290

You're not wrong about /jp/ but /qa/ is much longer lasting and people will necro some threads and require action and we need to be clear about how we're supposed to be benefiting the site from this action.

We've attempted these actions in the past and we never follow through with them well enough.

Yeah that's the problem with using "audiovisual" I just noticed... manga is probably one of the most important things to make sure you have in a more serious slow media discussion board so...

Oh wait just make it Audio/Visual media and everything works again.

If we abandon the tongue-in-cheek confusing naming scheme, there's a pretty simple solution:
/ota/ - Otaku Media

/ota/ - See Above
/jp/ - 2D/Random
/qa/ - Quality Arguments

 No.6315

Yeah, we're kinda just going to try and piss everyone off for a couple of days while we restructure, but you can just assume that whatever was on /qa/ relating to japanese entertainment will be on /amv/.

Then /qa/ will be what remains, the meta, real world, blogging. etc.

So now people who come here will know a lot easier that anime/manga/etc. has a dedicated space and /jp/ is for random stuff. And we can have a bit of overlap as people want. But boobhu is definetly not /amv/.

I think I get how the plan will work now

The only thing that confuses me still is how videogame fits into it, but I guess that's a small enough niche that we can not worry about it unlike anime..

Alright, I'm the third staff member and I guess I'll give my opinion. Do I need a single letter to identify myself? Hmm... nah.

>>6202
>Frankly it seems like you're avoiding the topic of what we have to do when people don't understand that a /av/ board is for anime discussion and decide to use it to post funny things.

I don't think this is an issue based on what I've seen in /a/ across its various forms on different imageboards including 4chan in recent times. The /a/ name is synonymous with generals and "condense your threads" thinking. What we need to fight against is the instinct for people to live inside individual threads and starting to identify with them instead of kissu. I'd say a rule would be that OP has to start a conversation in the thread and needs to stay engaged with it for a bit. No plopping a "ANIME NAME" thread down and walking away to wait for other people to make something of it. OP's job has always been to start an interaction.
Ideally this board would have posts and screenshots/video that inspires people to make /jp/ threads the way IRC can lead to kissu threads. If people see something in a show/game with broad appeal, especially if it's something simple and dumb, the instinct needs to be to make a /jp/ thread and not to post in the discussion thread. "I didn't think it was worth a thread" is a thought process that will pop up.
Also we need to make it clear that dumb threads on /jp/ can and should lead to discussion. Yes, this means not all discussion of a show or game will be in the serious thread and that's good. Use kissu as a whole site! I've been told I should write up a sticky so I'm going to end my post here, but it will be similar to this post I think.

 No.6329

>>6202
We fix this with a sticky obviously. That's what they're for.

/amv/ has been created. Refresh your page to see it. We need to fix the title later, but it's also meant for video games.

 No.6336

File:1443393386613.jpg (248.67 KB,552x510)

I'm good with whatever you fags decide. It's not like you're consigning every decision to stone forever. If unforeseen problems come up then it can be changed. There's always some people who will bitch, but they'll get over it in time.

I hate to call it this, but my awkward philosophy is using your boards as "flairs" to control what I want to see. /ec/ is for overt lewdposting and probably something not everyone wants to see when looking for threads, but I don't see its existence creating an insular board because it's togglable on /all/ which is my way of using the site.

 No.6337

File:[SubsPlease] Witch Watch -….jpg (235.16 KB,1920x1080)

I think I'm done moving stuff for now. Still need to iron some things out, so a few threads might be moved in the future (or moved back to /qa/). Also there's an error with the eroge thread, but that will get moved soon enough.
Event/multiplayer stuff should maybe stay on /qa/ after all, which would leave /amv/ for purely discussing the media.

 No.6338

>>6337
Oh he managed to move the eroge thread. nice

 No.6339

My opinion as a newfag: too many boards will make threads stay up too long. I think the amount of threads between the random boards is more than enough. I usually just use the overboard so I don't care about separation, but threads are gonna be up quite a long time now
