In response to the discussion in
>>>/b/13365 and years lingering thoughts on my and Vern's end, we're considering creating a new board for more serious media discussion, /av/ - AudioVisual media (emphasis on the a and v) that can fix a few of the problems we've had with the way /qa/ and /jp/ have been structured for a long while (for V's take read
>>>/b/13495)
The benefits of this are:
¥Easier to access and search through media discussion¥A more convenient and familiar access point for people to integrate through¥Facilitating more serious discussion¥Eliminating some confusion about board purpose during thread creation and reducing negative board chaos¥Killing megathread generals¥Kissu is /all/, and /all/ is Kissu, /av/ moderation will be treated no differently from the rest of the site and /av/ is not being treated as an easy way to capture refugees, this is a long term fix to a long term problemThe /poll/'s outcome will be lightly considered.

>>6285>>6292If we abandon the tongue-in-cheek confusing naming scheme, there's a pretty simple solution:
/ota/ - Otaku Media
>>6274>We need ONE anime board and ONE shitpost board./ota/ - See Above
/jp/ - 2D/Random
/qa/ - Quality Arguments
>>6294>>6303Shortened: /amv/ - Animangames

Yeah, we're kinda just going to try and piss everyone off for a couple of days while we restructure, but you can just assume that whatever was on /qa/ relating to japanese entertainment will be on /amv/.
Then /qa/ will be what remains, the meta, real world, blogging. etc.
So now people who come here will know a lot easier that anime/manga/etc. has a dedicated space and /jp/ is for random stuff. And we can have a bit of overlap as people want. But boobhu is definetly not /amv/.
I think I get how the plan will work now

The only thing that confuses me still is how videogame fits into it, but I guess that's a small enough niche that we can not worry about it unlike anime..

Alright, I'm the third staff member and I guess I'll give my opinion. Do I need a single letter to identify myself? Hmm... nah.
>>6202>Frankly it seems like you're avoiding the topic of what we have to do when people don't understand that a /av/ board is for anime discussion and decide to use it to post funny things.I don't think this is an issue based on what I've seen in /a/ across its various forms on different imageboards including 4chan in recent times. The /a/ name is synonymous with generals and "condense your threads" thinking. What we need to fight against is the instinct for people to live inside individual threads and starting to identify with them instead of kissu. I'd say a rule would be that OP has to start a conversation in the thread and needs to stay engaged with it for a bit. No plopping a "ANIME NAME" thread down and walking away to wait for other people to make something of it. OP's job has always been to start an interaction.
Ideally this board would have posts and screenshots/video that inspires people to make /jp/ threads the way IRC can lead to kissu threads. If people see something in a show/game with broad appeal, especially if it's something simple and dumb, the instinct needs to be to make a /jp/ thread and not to post in the discussion thread. "I didn't think it was worth a thread" is a thought process that will pop up.
Also we need to make it clear that dumb threads on /jp/ can and should lead to discussion. Yes, this means not all discussion of a show or game will be in the serious thread and that's good. Use kissu as a whole site! I've been told I should write up a sticky so I'm going to end my post here, but it will be similar to this post I think.

>>6202We fix this with a sticky obviously. That's what they're for.

From what I'm hearing, this would effectively be the new topic breakdown.

My opinion as a newfag: too many boards will make threads stay up too long. I think the amount of threads between the random boards is more than enough. I usually just use the overboard so I don't care about separation, but threads are gonna be up quite a long time now
No.6340
>>6339I don't mind it too much. Been here long enough that my perception on necroposting threads changed. If it's still relevant or you have something to add then why not post in it? It comes back up to the front page and discussion can get rolling on it again.
For example the toss up reminded me that
>>>/amv/1427 existed and I gave it a post. Provided I actually follow through with what I said I'll post about things I find I like or dislike about the game, and maybe others will try it too, I'm sure the kuonfag here would appreciate more people talking about her.
No.6341
>>6339What does it mean for a thread to stay too long? If people lose interest in the thread it will drop down in the pages and nobody will see it either way.
No.6342
>>6339The threads at the bottom of /qa/ are over a year old and nobody looks at them once they leave page 1 of /all/ unless they're a new user trying to figure out what the site's about or a complete asshole necroing things to meme on the rest of us. The bigger issue we've had is worrywarts thinking /qa/ threads have immense and eternal value and not making new threads because they're afraid of knocking off ancient threads nobody has used in forever. More space might help that, or at least free more discussion from the /qa/ curse.

Would I post funny/cute screenshots of anime I'm watching in /jp/ or /av/?
No.6344
>>6343/jp/ probably, although if you want to dump a bunch of them in a categorical manner then /ec/ might be best.
No.6346
>>6341Personally I like my own threads not to stay up too long, just to stay out there for a day or two then go away. I just got used to that on the quicker 4chan boards instead of leaving whatever dumb post idea that comes to mind practically permanently on a site. It makes me have to consider too much whether my thread is something people will want on the board + whether I want it to be public forever (4chan has archives but you have to dig for stuff in them). It kinda removes that no-filter freedom that anonymous boards can uniquely allow for.
To me imageboards have always been for disposable conversations that don't last long and go into the archive if you need to retrieve them later, and forums are for more longform stuff that lasts days-years. Forums have the one-thread-per-(game/anime/whatever) thing whereas on imageboards you should only make a thread when you have a comment to make on the subject. That's kinda just more of an abstract boardfeel thing that's hard to pinpoint why exactly I feel that way, it just is.
