Hello /jp/kissu, I plan to host Sven Co-op on Sunday the 20th at around 8pm EST.
Sven Co-op is a free Half-Life multiplayer mod with a ton of custom maps. It's really chaotic and fun! Everyone is welcome to join, but please take it easy and don't be too obnoxious.
I'll have the necessary resources and instructions posted closer to when I host. If you have any questions, post em.

I've never actually participated in the Sven Co-op before, but maybe I'll try it out this time. Is there anything to know about selecting a custom model or are they all incorporated into the server already?

We have a player model pack that gets posted alongside the maps for the session. It's not all inclusive, so people that play outside of my hosts might use a model we don't have.

The chatroom part is pretty much just at the start when we're waiting for people to come in. Then we start playing whatever maps, gamemodes, or campaigns the host had lined up for that day. Though, we're active enough in chat so it's kinda both, depends on how much action there is that needs gaymer skill. It helps that the average player count is somewhere in the 17-20 range, so you can stop to send a message without holding things back.

I seem to have corrected the problem and if I things are as I understand, the server should be more stable than it has been previously. That said, anticipate a lot of crashes anyway.

That is Cow Tycoon, and we rarely ever finish it because it's a long map and there is infinity ways for one to screw around and progress screeches to a halt, and by the time we start playing it most of our brains are already cooked from four-five hours of gaming. It was NOT designed with a dozen and a half retards in mind.

If you are getting lots of map crashes upon level changes, then this is (probably) caused by the libcurl.so.4 library they shipped with 5.26. Some servers resolved this by reverting it to the one provided in 5.25 instead. Alternatively you could block outbound requests to their donor servers, I know of at least 1 server that fixed it that way.
Crashes between level changes are probably caused by script related issues but troubleshooting these can be tedious unfortunately.

Unfortunately when I tried switching the files the server failed to start at all, it seems to have an issue with openssl. Going back to the 5.26 file fixed this.
I'll continue looking into it, but the crashes usually aren't that big of issue outside of longer map series, and I don't plan to host any this time. We may just have to put up with it or if I sort it out, we play on 5.25.

On one hand I'd like it if it's mostly the usual group (change is scary), but on the other it's not fair to be a clique and start barring the door to people interested in having fun.
The real question is what is the theoretical maximum player count before OP's server/internet shits itself and dies? If we normally hit around 20 people then we can expect a fair chunk more.

It's not like people don't already come and go. I think it's fine as long as everyone takes it easy. At any rate, I think a good few of the regulars will be there. I think talk of other imageboards has happened a few times, and kissu's been brought up. Besides, having been lurking kissu for some time, I like it's users, it'll be fine.
As for the max player count? It might be rough but believe the server can handle the 32 max player count, especially with the other anon shedding some light on the crashes being an issue with the server files. I do worry, however, that we might just hit it and some people get screwed out of playing... Hard to say, given the current situation.

Hopefully the server will be more stable now, and as it didn't seem to be the problem, I reenabled downloads, which solves the "looping" problem we ran into last time. Hopefully this time will be a much more straight forward experience.

I'm throwing together the maplist and will be making an archive for newcomers that has player models and also the files used by the server scripts. If anybody wants some new player models, look through the database (https://wootguy.github.io/scmodels/) and post what you want here. I'll have more detailed instructions on how to install everything once I actually have the files ready.
