I'll probably get it just because hunting monsters is always fun but I wasn't really impressed by the first beta and even journalists seem to be complaining it's too easy which is concerning. No performance issues during the beta at least so not worried about that.
No.3996
>>3995I wouldn't take complaints over the difficulty very seriously. Base MonHuns are always easy and Rise was especially easy to the point where you really had to try to cart. I expect them to implement challenging hunts via updates and events like World did.

Hunting Hunt seems better than Rise, but seems less fun than World. The echo bubble thing lets you queue up buffs without needing to swing, so that's pretty cool.
Lance seems like it's a lot stronger and feels more fun with stuff like triple hits and small returned damage on block. It seems like there's less of a movement penalty on it. I think I'll be messing around with Lance for a bit.

>>4026The wound system seems like simply a direct improvement over the clutch claw in every way imaginable, and I love engaging with it so that's good about this. Having two weapons helps as well since it allows some people to experiment a bit more with builds, though I just use the second slot for horn to buff my attack with GS.
Think I'm doing something wrong since I'm getting carted a lot more than I feel I should be for how easy others are saying the game is, but maybe it's just because of my suicidal "Get in the monster's face and TCS" style of play. Haven't fullly failed any mission yet though, and I think I'm approaching the end of low rank. Think I need to figure out how the upslash counter thing works since I haven't really found out how to use it outside of that first monster and I'm a bit worried about taking a hit if the move isn't counterable.
My favorite monster so far is easily
Jin Dahaad
No.4035
Although I have to say, when it goes right I fucking love my GS. Got to the Ebony Odoragon and just smashed his face in with how much I already knew of how to handle him from all the hours I sank into World. Getting the tackle perfect and then getting what feel like guaranteed boosted crits on wound TCS strikes is a lovely feeling, especially when you combine it with multiple wounds that you can then combo into direct TCS afterwards.

>>4053I didn't make it far in Wilds because of all the talking. I skipped past the parts I could, but then they threw forced walking escort stuff at me. I do plan to go back, but it will probably be after some major updates or possibly a mod to remove this tedium. I killed a monster I wasn't "supposed" to but it turns out you're supposed to do quests for them so they drop Monster Awards that are a completely artificial thing to block you from straying from the preset path. Quite a bit different from the tokens from arena or event quests.
Oh, and speaking of paths all the "No don't walk there" forced turn arounds!
Well, they wanted appeal to the movie game Western audience and sadly the sales indicated that it worked. I was thinking of playing World again with a bunch of mods, I just love how beautiful it is and all the side stuff like taking pictures of cats or capturing rare animals.
4U was great, played it on release. Some very satisfying fights in it like, uh, the nickname was Steve but I can't remember its actual name.
>We should get a MonHun General going if there isn't one already. You could just treat this one as a general MH thread I'd say.
No.5471
I am disappointed in Wilds. I put hundreds of hours into every MH game since FU even hitting 1k+ in World.
But Wilds just feels wrong, I attribute it to the map design and seikret reliance. I do not like how maps are built for the bird rather than the hunter and I definitely do not like how there are areas inaccessible without the bird.
No.5475
>>5471For me its how quickly everything dies, it feels very ADHD. Load up quest, smack monster for five minutes, collect loot, repeat. It's so braindead I hate it. I've already gone back to world and I don't think I'll touch wilds until the expansion, which hopefully addresses these issues.
No.7621
>>7599I wonder if it's even fixable with G-rank. I mean the combat was pretty fun I think so there's nothing too fundamentally flawed there, but everything was just way too streamlined otherwise.
No.7622
>>7599I'm not surprised. It swerved way too hard into mainstream pandering, which unfortunately rewarded it with a huge numbes of sales. I guess it remains to be seen whether they feel massive sales at the cost of a massive drop after the first couple weeks is still worthwhile. Obviously people don't pay for the monster updates, but these days they include a dozen or so paid DLC cosmetics with each major patch that must be selling decently for them to still be made.
I don't personally plan to go back until the expansion at earliest, but it remains to be seen whether it will be good or not.
Sucks.
No.7623
>>7621I dunno, focus mode feels objectively worse than clutch claw especially when playing with others.
No.7624
>>7623NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO way. I will die on the hill that clutch claw was the worst addition to world and the Wilds wounding system is 10000x better and more natural feeling than clutch clawing every 5 seconds to tenderize a limb, god I hated that. Although there definitely needs to be a fine tuning of the wounds system that makes parts not break as easily since I never really feel rewarded for breaking a part of a monster anymore, it's mostly a given that if you aim for a part you
will get that part, and probably all the parts if you're smart about it. Really disincentivizes running monsters more than a couple times since you can get pretty much every material in 4-5 kills. Wilds is an amazing game weakened by some kuso fine tuning, if they're able to take the critique of its current state to heart and adjust it a bit then I think it could be potentially even better than World.
No.7626
>>7625I guess all I ever play is GS and being able to aim the TCS doesn't feel any worse, in fact it feels better. I never knew how nice it'd feel until I started landing my hits more often by just turning slightly or a bit more. Though the free knockdown is pretty BS, makes too many weapons absolutely busted. I've seen hammer bros that will just stun a monster to death with it. That is pretty disgusting but it's not something that I think is unfixable, like the clutch claw is. Just have to wait until the DLC I guess.
No.7851
Seems like they're slowly adding underwater combat. You'll only be able to use the slinger but can move around. I can see the expansion adding full on underwater combat like in Tri.
No.7852
>>7848Uggghhhh that Pragmata girl has the vtuber voice.
Anyway, yeah, underwater combat MIGHT be interesting enough. The last time it was a thing having two analog controllers was something you needed a third party accessory to have. I don't see that happening until the expansion, though, so Lagriacus (was that the spelling) will probably be land-onlything with the expansion giving a water variant, which was uhh Abyssal Lagriacus I think in Tri.
I hated underwater combat personally, but that was because the controls were abysmal.
No.7853
this underwater just underwated me
No.7866
The underwater "combat" is not actual underwater combat. Its basically a cutscene that interrupts the fight. Looks like another kuso update that people will drop after the first week. Wilds simply has no staying power.
No.7867

No.9774
>>9773Well, this gives me some hope for G-rank then.
No.9776
>>9773Yeah I may give it another look with the performance update, maybe. It is a gorgeous when it comes to its tech capabilities, it's just a ugly from a design standpoint. Man, just imagining Rise's style and humans with Wilds tech makes me want to cry. The sexy mods would be falling like manna from the heavens.
I wonder how the executives feel. Wilds still did massive sales when it came out, people just didn't stick around to play it. So cosmetic DLC, which became an important part of their monetization of updates, is presumably not performing very well at all. Wait, maybe I already said that in this thread.
Anyway, I'm anxious to see if they can turn it into more of a Monster Hunter game instead of the Western-pandered movie game thing it was originally.
No.9877
>>9773 (me)
I will say though, the biggest #1 con is the main low rank story. Even if high rank is improved and the monsters are buffed, the main story of the game will still suck ass. The story is very contradictory and pretty bad, almost as if ChatGPT wrote it. Fighting the tutorial monster, Chatacabra, feels bad because it just feels like you're bullying a poor little guy. Arkveld is fine but his design feels like something from God Eater than Monster Hunter, and the final boss, Zoh Shia, is effectively the Equal Dragon Weapon concept from Monster Hunter 1 but with an execution left to really be desired (you're basically fighting Iceborne Fatalis but way easier with little to no fanfare). If your favorite Monster Hunter is 4 Ultimate, then you'll likely hate what they did to monsters like Nerscylla, Gore Magala and even hate how frenzied monsters are like in this game. For now, the monsters I consider actual highlights in the game so far are Jin Dahaad, Mizutsune, and Lagiacrus because their fights are more close to the older Monster Hunter games.
The main issue with this game is that Capcom really did have a pretty ambitious and cool idea of making an open world Monster Hunter, and it seems that most of the developers' brain and manpower went into designing the world and selling some generic mainstream-like cinematic story rather than an engaging gameplay like all the other games.
So yeah, I do think I should've learned from what Capcom did with Dragon's Dogma 2 and not waste 80 bucks for this game when it came out. I still say that it's better to wait until they fix most of the perfomance issues and to get the game at a hefty discount if you're still thinking of giving it a chance.
No.9899
>>9776>I wonder how the executives feel. Obviously in full panic mode. Wilds initially had good sales but since then it jumped off a fucking cliff. They're probably worried about how this is going to effect the expansion. Seeing them announce an optimization update after ignoring it for months tells me they're getting desperate.
No.9900
>>9899The two title updates were also pretty much just finishing up code that's been found in the game since the first open public beta.
No.9907
>>9900I hope this means they'll go back to actual Monster Hunter stuff then instead of trying to reach a new audience of Western movie-game fans. They can keep the great tech and visuals, though, at least if they optimize it so people can see it.
The amazing visuals really aren't necessary, though, they could just go back to something like World's level or just something better than Rise and its made-for-Switch limitations.

No.9910
>>9908Well, the older games are quite extreme when it comes to grinding and stuff so it's hard to recommend those to people that want to dip their toes in the waters. Monster Hunter World's issue is its awful quest/cinematic thing where it's difficult to just play seamlessly with friends, but there are mods for that these days.
My opinion is World is probably the best introduction to it since it does away with all the monotonous starter quests, although it's probably not a "pure" MH experience like the older ones. If you want something like that then maybe 3 or 4 like
>>9909 said, but I don't know how PC emulation works for those. I absolutely loathe 3's water mechanics, but some people seem nostalgic for them somehow.
No.9920
>>9908Antirecommend on Wilds unless you each want to play 30 hours solo and only then play together. At launch I played mostly with my online friends and it was a huge pain in the ass.
Worlds is very good and has a normal control scheme so that's probably the easiest.
But if you want to get the True Experience I would recommend the fan translation of Portable 3rd. It is by far the easiest of the old gens, but still has a lot of the "simulatory" aspects that got gradually removed from the series. Playing multiplayer on a PSP emulator is also very easy.
