 No.144551[View All]

A few months ago I was talking about altchans on /a/ and realized a big stumbling block for people is that the lists of sites that get posted around contain too many sites with not enough details and people tend to give up after the fifth or sixth utterly dead/meme shitposting site they click through. I'm hitting myself for being lazy and not making a better guide before this, but with 4chan still down I imagine it would still be good to have something easy to pass around to help the flood of refugees as we approach the weekend.

I tried to cover the issues I've seen people be most interested in across the various 4chan down threads. Activity, especially in regards to specific hobbies, is probably the biggest, but a familiar UI, easy browsing of different boards/sites, and file support have all come up. I focused mostly on relevant topics to the /a/jp/ sphere here since that's what I'm more familiar with, but I'm open to suggestions on what to put in here. I think zzz, 8, 7, and sushi could fit on here too for vidya and broader topic selections. Please correct me if anything is wrong, a fair bit has to be derived from cursory inspection.

Regarding activity levels, I'm imagining 4chan as the 10/10 max level for everything so it's kind of a log scale so everything else isn't all a 1 in comparison. Basically, green means there's fresh discussion of a topic multiple times a day, yellow means once every day or three something gets kicked up about it, and red means it still lacks the critical mass to maintain regular discussion.

Those are emoji, from the original set used by several Japanese carriers. Heyuri has both emotes and emoji.

 No.147162

I like the banksoft emojis and they seem okay for messaging friends, but they are harmful to imageboards. Every imageboard I know of that added emotes just got less pictures and emotes all over the place. It feels like it goes against the purpose of imageboards.

It's fine if you want the site to be a 4chan April Fools funposting fest all the time, but I feel like it cuts off serious discussion and I hate seeing an IB that looks like an IM log. Wap seems to be going through a transformative stage now trying to actively respond to the refugees, though, so we'll have to wait and see what it ends up looking like once the dust has settled.

Added tvchan and a line for literature since I've seen people asking about those topics around here.

Confirmed wap's new 4chanX is working with the big list of sites.

I was thinking you could add a file size line too, a lot of anons seem to be surprised(?) at the larger file size limits on alternative sites.
Also, kissu has a captcha that activates when "flood is detected".

Where are /a/ and /rozen/?

 No.148212

>>148039
/a/ is a new board created in response to the 4chan downtime, it only had the sticky post when I first went there. I'm trying to exclude refugees until it becomes clear they're going to stay there.

/rozen/ is too specific to consider an "anime discussion board."

I think the spin offs tend suck because they tend get spun off after the source board has gone to shit for years, they end up preserving not the culture of a few years ago but the already colored culture of the decline.
The better IB's of the past were mostly original boards filling a niche 4chan never had, not angrily trying to preserve invasions/lolishota/anime elitism/Ron Paul/etc after their heydey was already gone.

/rozen/'s been there a long while from what I could remember. It's in the same vein as /2hu/ except it wasn't largely competing with 4/jp/ for posters. But yeah, still too niche for general weaboos.

 No.149479

Wapchan split off their /jp/ type posts from /vnt/ into a new board (/djn/ - Doujin Culture).

Are you still working on this, OP? Do you want any more suggestions or anything?

 No.150780

>>150439
Not OP, but I don't think the imageboard landscape has radically changed since then.
It might be worth updating one or two weeks after (TN: if) 4chan comes back online, but that's about it.

I did make some updates and logged the filesize limitations on sites that actually list them, but took a break to catch up on anime and then got distracted by the /amv/ stuff. I'm still open to suggestions, but I'm not sure how much more can go into the image and still have it be readable by normal users. There's an autistic part of my brain that wants to go even more granular and cover every board topic and every filetype, but that would probably need a website with a database instead of an image of a spreadsheet.

And, yeah, I think most everyone has found their temporary homes at this point and we'll have to wait until 4chan either comes back or admits defeat for things to stabilize and we can recheck what the landscape looks like after everyone has decided where to settle.

 No.151027

/hr/ has a higher filesize limit, pretty sure it's 8mb but can't confirm for obvious reasons.

 No.151029

Kinda a pain because boards have different filesize. The generic filesize here is 80mb. Not sure which one is at 100mb.

Yeah, that's an issue with several fields. Like 7chan bans AI everywhere but their AI boards, but it's hard to represent that.
