I feel like my consciousness glazed over when I was watching that show so I can't remember most of it. She's an apothecary in the Chinese court or something and uhh... they're definitely from different worlds due to their upbringing and social class, I guess. They're kind of opposites in some respects, but very similar in others. Kuon is far cuter!

Maomao was always in a position where she needed to work to survive. I feel like if she could relax and didn't have to work, she'd be a lot like Haku. If she was in Haku's position, I could definitely still see Kuon being exasperated at her for stuff like having less stamina and being weaker than kemomimi people.
