I want to buy an AC but my room is oddly shaped.
Pic related.
Can I make it work with only 1 AC?
I sit on chair B and my bro sits on chair A

Huh? What? Is this random spam?
Yes, it's a room and an AC unit will cool it.

Oh, it's not? Sorry, it's just so out there that I wasn't prepared for it.

>>155951
I can't claim to know much about ACs, but you'd have to measure out your room since I'm bad at math. They usually include labeling that goes with the BTU, though, like "Cools 400 square feet! (don't know what that is in other units)" to show what size of room it's designed for. The brand I like is Midea, and yes they just had a massive recall in the US but since they're giving me a full refund a year later I'm buying a different model.

AFAIK even the smallest ACs take up so much space you'd need a hangar. And the ones that deal with the heat are the large ones.

 No.155970

>>155967
Oh. I strongly, STRONGLY recommend not getting one of those portable ones. They're loud, far less efficient, and just far worse at everything. You really, really need a window unit that has part of it hanging outside so the noise and also the heat is outside of the room.

Why do you sit in the corner facing a wall? Do you hate your bro that much?
More on topic: what's your climate like? That probably affects how powerful of an AC you need, how much space it would take up and how much noise it would make.

Because once you go 50'' 4k you can't go back to normal pea-sized monitors.

>what's your climate like?
Summer (Dec–Feb): Warm (18–25°C), rainy (150–200 mm/month), humid, thunderstorms.
Autumn (Mar–May): Mild (13–22°C), moderate rain (100–150 mm), crisp, foggy.
Winter (Jun–Aug): Cool (8–18°C), drier (80–120 mm), foggy, occasional frost.
Spring (Sep–Nov): Mild to warm (12–23°C), rainy (120–160 mm), variable.

we don't care about noise because we use ANC headphones 24/7

You should do your own research for ACs, as they vary from country to country with regulations and climates, always check reviews.
Someone touched on portable ACs, they are not entirely horrible, this video talks about them in more detail https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-mBeYC2KGc

Ah yeah, the dehumidifying part of these is amazing.

Another thing I forgot to mention is to get a inverter air conditioner. It's the newer type that can cool in steps. The non-inverter types are the ones that are either blasting at full power or off with nothing in between. It's a far inferior technology.

 No.155995

the portable ones are weird and noisey but sometimes the choice is between putting a giant piece of plywood on the windows for an outdoors one or using an indoor one in more convenient place.

The double hose ones are at least more efficient. Another idea I had is to stick a unit in a balcony and duct the airflow into the house. But it has to handle the rain and such

Holy fuck that's expensive. Do you need to put a hole in the wall for that? It definitely looks a lot more elegant than a window unit, but I can't quite figure out the layout since it's supposed to have a second part attached to it with tubes but the images and video doesn't include them.

This is the one I just bought to replaced a different type that was recalled from the same company. I haven't had a chance to use it, but the previous one was nice and quiet.

The problem with these AC units is they're also dehumidifiers and they can collect water inside them, which is what happened with my previous one that lead to the recall due the potential for mold growth. I really liked it, too. Oh well, I hope the new one cools just as well.

Yes, and you're gonna need a HVAC-permitted technician to install it, which is probably gonna cost you atleast another $1000 on top.

I had no idea there were so many factors to picking an AC I thought it was just about BTUs, the size of my living room, and choosing a good brand.
I live in an apartment on a high floor (12+), my budget is $2000, and also no part of the AC is allowed to hang outside the window

Hmmm... that keeps you from the U-shaped units, but I think one similar to the one I linked could possibly work if you kept most of it inside >>156003 but I really have no idea. If no window stuff at all then I guess I can't really offer any suggestions apart from aiming for an inverter unit. Anything is better than nothing at all. I'm sure having a larger budget than I ever did could afford you a better "portable" unit than the one I had.

>no part of the AC
Window ACs aren't all that powerful anyway, I think.
You can install a condenser unit on a wall, right? If its a fancy apartment you definitely have a dedicated area where the condensers are hanging off. They look like thus.
You're looking at either a portable unit, or a split AC.
And your landlord definitely has an SOP for installing split ACs.
See if its worth it. If not get the portable.
As for the shape of the room, install the (sufficiently powerful) AC at the corner and use ceiling fans to mix up the air, is what I would do. Probably not optimal.
I would have told you about evaporative cooling, but 25°c is the hottest you're going, so there is really no point. I used to use it to make 45 degree heat tolerable at my parents' house. The motor/bearings go bad rather quick because of all the humidity, so it would slow down every few days. I added another 2.5 microfarad capacitor every time it slowed down, usually fixed it. By the time I moved out the motor had a bouquet of 5 or 6 capacitors but I had stopped using it since the burning smell started.

>>156015
In that case, your only option is the portable type. The video posted here >>155991 is very good on that topic, that dude knows his stuff.
So, looking at your needs; it never gets absurdly hot in your area, and you want to cool just one room, and it has a window that can be opened to stick the air discharge tube to. Easy.

Just look for the cheapeast portable AC (as low as ~$300) with good reviews and you're good. BTUs and brands don't really matter in this case.
Portable ACs really are very inefficient energy-wise, and may cause a negative pressure in your apartment (at worst, sewage smell). But you can DIY negate that if you want/need to.

>>156016
>if you kept most of it inside
A window unit is not feasible here because it needs a solid installation (you cant just cut a hole into the apartment window and magically fasten a 30kg block into it). The majority of a window unit has to be outside, because that's the hot part.
Not sure what you mean by an inverter unit.

tldr, OP, just get a cheap portable single-tube AC, see how it works for you. It will likely do what you need.

On the 12th floor you probably won't be having anyone find out unless it falls out and you kill someone.

But you probably don't have the proper "AC Ledge" or the support that needs to be built into the wall to hold it. So you have to get an indoor portable unit

https://www.consumerreports.org/appliances/air-conditioners/inverter-air-conditioner-can-keep-you-cool-save-money-a2573323852/

Basically a newer type of tech that is far better in practically all ways. I had a portable AC that was the old tech and the way it worked was really stupid. I had a portable unit with the old technology and I hated it because I'd be lying down and relaxing and then suddenly it would rev up. My window inverter unit conversely, well, read the article and you'll get the idea. It's quiet and changes phases without me noticing.

By the way this part is VERY true:
>The other advantage? Hearing the compressor kick on and off can be more intrusive than the steady hum of an inverter’s compressor, so an inverter is less likely to wake you up at 3 a.m.

 No.156223

crazy to be saying this, but in light of numerous frivolous purchases I can not afford an AC unit so I have to cool this entire 650ft^2 unit with a 5k BTU located in my bedroom
