Keep trash bins ideally in every room. Convenience helps keep waste from piling on your work areas.
If you have a habit of drinking soda and not finishing them, make a habit of carrying them out of the room and dumping them into sinks.
Keep a recycle bucket in your main dwelling area for them too and get a habit of pitching them as soon as you're done. Bottles can be flattened to make efficient space.
For laundry I'd suggest two baskets. One basket for dirty clothes and another for clean. If you don't have a habit of putting the clean clothes away as soon as you're done then it's good to have a second basket so you're not piling dirty clothes up on the floor. If you want a good incentive then know that brown recluses like clothing piles, so watch out if you live in their range.
