Have you got a beard or any facial hair?
Thoughts on facial hair?

I have a full-coverage, surface-level beard. The only reason I haven't shaved is that I'll look weird to my new colleagues

I've tried all sorts of facial hair styles:
>Mustache
>Short full beard
>Long mountain man/hobo full beard
>Goatee (what I have now)
And I even tried sideburns once but that one looked like shit so I gave up on it.
I also have long hair so when I had a mustache I've been told that I look like Vlad the Impaler.

Took me a moment to realize the poll was about facial hair and not the burg. Oops.
I dont mind if others have it, but I really hate it myself. Hairs come out too stiff to be pleasant and it's itchy. I'd rather not sit in an uncomfortable neckbeard stage for god knows how long it'll take to grow anything more. Clean shaven feels better.

I just shave my face every week or so. I don't like Facial hair, it's kinda itchy. Something like a moustache would be a lot of effort and I really don't care about how I look.
The human body sure is a hassle.
No.7466
>>7465>it's kinda itchyNo matter what I do I end up with horrible dry itchy skin under my beard. I tolerate it as long as I can because I'm lazy. But I always end up pulling out the clippers and chopping it off.
I hate shaving too. When I use the clippers I end up looking like I have 5 o'clock shadow. That's as clean shaven as I ever get. Then I let it go for another month or two before doing it all over again.
I'd like to see if I could grow one out as long as ZZ Top and the guys in the old Kung Fu movies. But there is no way I could push through the itchy phase long enough to make that happen. Plus my beard just seems to stop getting longer for whatever reason. Hair on my head does the same thing now.
I was surprised the first time I shaved my head bald. I ended up really liking it. It was comfy as long as I didn't do it in the middle of winter.
No.7467
>>7466Yeah bald head is pretty nice. I've only done it the one time. Usually I let my hair grow until people tell me I need a haircut, then maybe a few months later I'll go at it with some clippers with the longest guard.

Honestly I love growing a beard just so I can shave it all off and start the cycle anew, feels nice. Espeically after a hot shower, goddamn shaving after a hot shower feels divine.

I shaved recently after keeping a beard for several years. Felt like I could never get the beard quite how I wanted it and it would alternate between looking scraggly and then patchy when I trimmed it. Not sure if it's a genetic issue or just a beardcare issue, I tried a bunch of different stuff.

it's interesting to me that the balance of the poll has shifted significantly since it began.
the first few votes were mostly yes/good and no/good but now no/bad is the largest category by far
does this say something about habitual posters (who check daily and were likely the earliest voters) vs occasional lurkers?
No.7483
Does anyone else struggle with razor burn? I get it on my neck specifically. I've tried switching razors, I've tried switching aftershave, I don't apply too much pressure, but I still get it half the times I shave.
Recently bought an electric foil razor so I'm trying that but it seems hard to get a good neck shave to begin with using it.
No.7484
>>7482It's more dependent on timezones.
You'd be better off looking at the proportion of posts representing the votes.
"Negative" posters wouldn't have much to talk about compared to the "positive" posters.
You could also go your way and correlate it with that habitual posters are closer to hikkineetckbeards and the occasional posters are responsible norps who don't have the time and possibility to experiment with facial hair growth. But this just feels less close to truth here.
The third variant is that the positive voters' timezones correlate with the prevalence of "good facial hair" phenotypes for the timezones' people who'd post on anonymous boards.

No.7489
>>7483After shave is just rubbing alcohol. All it's doing is drying out your skin and shrinking your pore. I have shaving but to avoid burn I've figured out over the years to do the following routine when I have shave clean:
1) Trim beard with clippers using no guard
2) Hot shower or at least hot water on face (opens up pores)
3) Shave with straight razor or one of the old school safety razors. Make sure blade is as sharp as possible
4) Do not shave against the grain
5) If you cut yourself use grain alcohol (the kind you drink) to dab on it. Stops bleeding pretty fast and makes it less noticeable.
Using a proper razor is much different than the plastic ones. Those throw away blades get dull after one use and they drag along my skin. Causes the burn.
If you do get burn use cold water instead of after shave. Then follow up with shea butter.

No.7491
>>7489For what it's worth I don't use shaving creme either. I can typically get away with shaving dry (well water only) if I've trimmed it down first. When I do make lather I use the small pieces of bar soap that are left over after you've used the bar for awhile. That or I break a fresh one into small pieces. Then I throw them in a coffee mug with a bit of shea butter and water. I mix them with an old shaving brush my Grandfather gave me a long time ago. Once it turns to lather you dab it on your face with a brush.
That's how he shaved and he taught me so I always did it that way. I tried some commercial stuff over the years but it's pretty expensive for what it is and it doesn't work any better than using old bar soap.
We always used some "all natural" bar soap that looks like potatoes some woman sells at the flea market. Same place I get tubs of shea butter for $5 that last for years. Grandpap said they used to make their own soap when he was younger but they just started buying it at some point because the lady makes it the same way and it's really cheap. I'm not sure exactly how she makes it or what kind it is. The above works with any soap I've had to use while traveling. Those little bars they give away for free at hotels work good. I swipe as many of them as I can when I stay in hotels because they're easier to break into small pieces.
The sharpness of the blade seems to be the the key to avoiding burn though. My Grandfather gave me a safety razor like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Bambaw-Metal-Safety-Razor-Silver/dp/B07XJQZKL2I've been using it since I started shaving. Replacement blades are really cheap. I use a fresh one every time because I don't shave clean that often. When I did shave clean everyday a blade would last me usually an entire week or more before I felt like it was getting too dull. Even if you replaced them everyday it's a lot cheaper than buying the plastic kind. I keep a bag of those around though just in case I run out of blades or a guest needs use of a razor. Since I don't want them using mine.
