Say you have to repeatedly press a button until you win. Would you rather have:

definitely B, i'm not gonna deal with some bullshit rng with the chance to make me stay there until i do 150k presses

 No.6898

>1/90,000 chance to win after every press
Yeah, pressing it 100,000 times is better than gambling on a 0.001% chance every press.

But if similar scenarios come up multiple times in your life, the RNG will average out and you'll save presses in the long run.

averages are an abstraction they don't actually guarantee anything

 No.6902

if you math it out, by the time you've pressed A 100,000 times you have a 68% chance of succeeding

Luck-based stuff is much too frustrating, at least in a situation like this. Critical hits and stuff are fun.

Or if multiple kissuers agree to choose the RNG option, then they'll save each other presses in total.

 No.6907

I don't care about which one is statistically better. I just think it would feel way better to win the 1/90,000 chance.

Depends on what's being won. If I don't want it more than once, then I pick the 100k button.

 No.6909

There's like a 30% chance that the 90k option will take over 100k presses.

Except that only matters if I actually push the button enough times to win. I would be much more likely to keep pushing the button if I knew that every press was getting me a small bit of progress, whereas in the random case non-winning presses are totally worthless and I'd probably burn out long before I hit the jackpot.

How long would it take to press a button 100,000 times? I'm guessing a couple of hours.
The time difference between 90K and 100K won't matter much at that scale, so I'd go for the guaranteed payout as long as the prize is worth that many hours.

Maxed out LCK stat so I'm just gonna press the button once and walk away. Bow before me DXT plebs.

Chance. I would rather never succeed than attribute my success to something as unfulfilling as 100,000 button presses. With chance at least I can brag or despair, depending on how it goes.
