sticking some open source OS on it is easy.
Then the manufacturer can get money from Amazon, Apple, etc. For bundling their subscription services on it.

I like being able to pair my bluetooth headphones with my TV so that's nice. I avoid most of the bullshit from smart TVs by not connecting them to wifi. Can't show me ads and can't spy on me either. I do, however, want to strangle whatever dipshit decided that for my model the input button on the remote wouldn't actually toggle the input directly but would instead pull up a UI element to select what input I wanted. A TV UI has no business being as slow as mine is.

I managed to somehow buy a brand new non-smart TV but it's no better than what was standard on the market years ago. It's weird. Maybe it was a leftover from then or something.
No.3898
Was confused recently when my TV started to seem more blurry, especially the reds would be a blurred mess when I could've sworn they were clean before. Turns out it's because it wasn't set to "Game Mode" and instead was on some sort of entertainment setting. Which I don't really get. If the other modes are better for certain entertainment then why the hell are the colors not fully supported. That makes no sense.

one or two years ago on /g/ people were saying you could still buy dumb tellies made for businesses

this is why i bought a car from a decade ago instead of a new one

I have used a computer monitor or ipad for over a decade now. The idea of buying a tv itself seems so weird and unnecessary to me.

>>3881"Smart" TVs of today are cheaper than dumb TVs from just a few years ago. The cost of making things "Smart" is now so low, and the benefits (for the company which makes and sells these) are so high, there is no reason to make a non smart TV anymore.
You are probably looking for a large size TV. I think you could probably get a 42 inch dumb TV.
>>3888How did we let it come to the point where they show you ads on something you paid for? Norms enabled this

>>3904I guess you mean TVs are more than

I don't build TVs so I don't know what goes into them

>>3905Wtf
It is very unlike amazon to release source code considering how lunatic they are with Kindle.
But yes TVs are more than just source code and, depending on the company the TV could refuse to run any firmware but the one it came with. Even if you modified the firestick source

I just looked at a file of their Alexa Remote. I figure the rest are similar

>>3901There are barely any cars like that anymore, and the bet is on you not being able to disable the connected/"smart" features because you will lose warranty and insurance will deny you reimbursement because surely you were committing insurance fraud because you didn't want two dozen advertisers to know your precise location.
