Article he's reading that would take you 40 seconds to read instead of 13 minutes watching: https://techcrunch.com/2025/04/23/discord-appoints-former-activision-blizzard-exec-humam-sakhnini-as-ceo/

Some Activision-Blizzard executive, huh? Well, scum goes together with scum.

I was wondering if he was about the same or better, but he just seems to be doing filler content where he talks to himself in an awkward way

ugh.... That's it. I'm jumping off before it gets bad (worse).

Oh yeah forgot to mention earlier that it's crazy to me that they haven't sold all the data they're sitting on. That's probably not something they'd mention publicly, though, or before it happens. There might be problems selling it, though, since it contains significant data of minors which might taint the legality of it (if they'll pretend to care).
So many chats, images, and voices recorded, they're sitting on a huge trove of data for AI training from before the internet became inundated with AI trash everywhere. They can just cut off the date.

What makes you think they didn't? Maybe not wholesale logs, but just general analysis of users' interests is already valuable enough for advertisers and such.
And then there retards who use it to discuss finances and other sensitive info.

Sigh. I hope they don't get even more aggressive with wanting phone numbers. I create burner accounts whenever I am forced to access a server and delete them after it's over, and when you have a fresh account there are always chances of getting locked if the algorithm sees something it does not like. From using mobile data to not letting it access the HTML5 canvas.

Even my Uni had the genius idea of creating an official discord server that requires authenticating with the student email account to access it. This may not bode well in the future.

I use it to download mods for stuff about twice a year or so and just assume the account I make will die in a couple months. It's usually pretty accurate. Maybe they find it suspicious how I just log on, look around, and click a few links before disappearing until I need to do it again. They must expect people to sit there all day with it running in the background.
I used to use ripcord as a client, but ran into too many issues with the stupid channels that demand that you click links to verify you're a human or whatever, it seemed to struggle to process those. The second-best thing is to just run it in browser, I guess, since I assume it has fewer permissions there than the desktop program.

There would be a record of sale to a single big company or some sort of marketplace.

Discord's only saving grace is that it's not scrape-able by bots. But I guess that will probably be their biggest selling point: Selling things that can't be indexed by search engines...

With the browser version you get the benefit of being able to adjust the privacy, and being able to use userscripts with it.

One that I particularly like is hiding block messages, since it completely erases blocked users from the chat: No more "Blocked user message", they will be erased like Stalin's acne scars in photos.

Another thing that I found is that if you are on Discord for Android and suddenly have bad connectivity (happens to me on the train due to lack of cell towers and too many tunnels), they always trigger "you need to verify with phone", but it disappears once you have a stable connection again.

For me, the future is IRC or Matrix, and Teamspeak if I ever play online again.

Browser extensions for discord? Huh, I had no idea. My interactions with discord are very brief, I don't even talk to people so I never thought about it. It's just such a profoundly inferior way to organize things that used to be done on forums. At least the "find" feature works for talking about things in the past, even if you can't talk to them about it since you weren't there for it.
I'm disappointed that no one ever made some sort of link harvesting site for it the way people did for many other communities. Just something that works like a scraping bot that scans for URLs and neatly pastes them on a page somewhere with a title. You don't go to Site A and B to download things any more, you go to 30 different discords and hope a shared thing is accessible to you.

It's bad enough having to access discord for info, but even worse when you are trying to spend the least amount of time and someone keeps flooding the chat, incapable on even understanding how annoying they are.

On the other side, this week someone decided to use the trivia bot on the IRC channel, in the middle of a serious conversation. The admin force closed the trivia section and told them to fuck off to another channel for trivia (that bot is meant to be used during the dead hours when nothing's happening).

It's a little weird but the search does find things. And channel owners rend to either pin or put their download cables on a seperate channel

primeagen thread
>I was wondering if he was about the same or better, but he just seems to be doing filler content where he talks to himself in an awkward way
I get what kouhai-tachi mean by mean by second screen video when i put this guy's shit on. 5 minutes of content stretched into half hour so you don't miss anything important while organizing your downloads folder or doing the dishes. I like primeagen's stupid pink face and my coworker watches him too so I shoot the shit about primeagen at the watercooler

His older content maybe.
This stuff, since he became a professional content creator, not at all.
His lack of creativity makes me doubt his job at netflix writting scripts in Rust had any real meaning, but I'm just being rude
