It's interesting that people are doing this, though, I know people used to do it quite often for older VNs. Personally I never venture away from the "official" stuff, it's just a personal hangup of mine.

If i'm being honest, i think i enjoy the mods more than the base game. Maybe it's just because they give me an excuse to go back to DDLC.

The creator (Dan Salvato) doesn't really like spinoff games/ things like that. His rule is that if you want to make a game/story extension with the characters, it has to have the base game in it to be usable in the first place.
Most of them are just story alterations/extensions, but some (like RTTP my beloved) add on to the gimmicks DDLC had tenfold. Like having to poke around in the files, save and load, and start a new game to progress the story!
This is my first time on this website so i'm not sure if there are links allowed but there's a website with TONS of mods (and my favorite) that i frequent.

Like "salvation" in particular. Not my cup of tea, per se, but if you're looking for a family friendly version, that's a very real option.
