It's always strange seeing people complaining about the state of "modern gaming", because I pretty much only play old games and indie games at this point. As such, I've been largely insulted from all of the stuff people complain about in the latter day gaming world.

If anything, I would say that of the games I've played, the new ones have only gotten better and better. In the past year or so (only counting games that came out relatively recently), I've played Pizza tower, Slay the Princess, the (relatively large) Big Catch demo, Antonblast, and the new Deltarune chapters. All of these have been very fun experiences for me and I recommend that everyone here check all of them out.

I guess the moral of the story is that what you're looking for is out there, you just have to find it. It's easy to let negatively absorb you, but this is ultimately escapism, and allocating brainwaves to media you hate is completely antithetical to that end.

Oh this reminds me that I forgot to reply to that other Deltarune thread made on /amv/. I'm not really interested in the Yume Nikke clone genre (think I'm too old), but I'm glad they're popular.
Indies are pretty much the future of gaming, yeah. I can only see some big Japanese companies surviving since they still actually know how to make good games, although the cracks are there. Stuff like Rune Factory and Fantasy Life released this year and they're right up my alley. Palworld is older, but it's a great game with active development.

The important thing is that AAA studios are best left in the past, they're just too disconnected from actual gamers.

Yeah I stopped caring about mainstream gaming a while back. Emulating previous generation gems and playing newer indie games scratches the itch for me as well. I've been hooked on this 2D indie metroidvania called Rusted Moss. It's a delight due to the buttery smooth movement and fun boss fights, plus it has a cool ambience and good backgrounds/art style.

Side note, I'm looking forward to a future where indie game devs can accomplish more with less due to technological advancements.

When you see people complaining you might think thats all they do, but its not like actually good games get underappreciated or anything like that.

Things have been moving that way for longer than you'd think. A Hat in Time came out in 2017, and at least visually, there isn't a particularly large gap between it and what companies like Nintendo were doing around the same time.

off topic, but I still need to watch Delta chapter 3

I complain about the state of "modern gaming" because the state of modern AAA sets a terrible precedent for the future of bigger budget studio games and sees to it that few blockbuster titles will ever reach the greatness of old because of awful business practices and greedy corporate execs. And then because of the supposed credit these bigger studios get and the awful business climate they foster, they create awful habits for their developers that leads them to sabotaging smaller indie projects if they're ever introduced into the teams because their mindset becomes a poison. Some recent cancelled projects being a good view at these effects.

Because of this I want to see it all burn down for the majority of big AAA publishers/studios. Or at least the SKG initiative finally kick them down a bit for their cockiness. Indie is great, and will continue to be great, but non-Indie could be far, far better than it currently is and I'm sick of accepting that it just is this way. The situation must improve or we reset it to the start.

these people are retards who only play AAA fps or rpg games, they never even heard of such a thing as danmaku

they aren't like long term fans of franchises such as total war or europa universalis either

they aren't fans of dwarf fortress, they hate roguelikes, they never read a visual novel

They are the lowest scum but also most vocal ones, because people who are passionate about games usually just play them for themselves without the need to stream or talk about them non stop

It's really, really good, probably the funniest chapter thus-far, but IMO 4 is really the standout of the two.

Chapter 3 is kind of a breather chapter. You know how SMRPG has minigame sections to break things up? Well chapter 3 is basically a bunch of those back to back. It's also very lighthearted and self-contained in terms of plot. Chapter 4 is pretty much the exact opposite. It's very dramatic (although there's still a lot of humor), and it's probably the most plot important chapter in the whole game after the first.

I watched the first gameshow and I found it fun. It makes me want to buy the latest.

I will say that the ps2 era was truly special due to the conflux of development costs not being too damn high, technology being high enough fidelity to realize a lot of ideas, the industry not being infested with greed and the industry being nuclear hot to the point that even the weirdest of game concepts could reasonable be put on a shelf and sell
But what's nice is that the era hasn't gone anywhere, in fact nowadays it's easier than ever to enjoy that era, you can download games that didn't even release in your mother country and play it at a higher resolution And make the hud hilariously wide
Unrelated to this point but holy shit deltarune is so fucking good, if it can keep up its standard of quality it's likely to be one of my favorite games ever

It's funny seeing people compare Undertale and Deltarune to Earthbound. Don't get me wrong, the influence is obviously there, but if they're "clones" of anything, it's Mario and Luigi, especially Deltarune.

Earthbound? It's obviously a Touhou fanfic

Well, whatever it is, yeah. It's referencing things that I already experienced so it's kind of lost on me. It's like how I could only shrug my shoulders at stuff like vaporwave since I'm actually someone that did record things on VHS.

The only AAA game I can say I'm looking forward to is TES VI. But it's been over a decade since Bethesda released a good game, who knows if they've still got it?
