I've known of it for like 25 years but I have zero interest in it. I've just regarded it as something like Garfield or Felix the Cat or something. I played a 3DS game that is a Doraemon-themed Harvest Moon and it was alright, I guess. I wasn't exactly enthralled by the characters. When it comes to simple kid shows I think every country has their own and it's not necessarily something imported in a major way.

It's something like Anpanman. It may be massively popular, but it's for children isn't it?
I'll give some things a try if it has cute girls though...
>>7754 When was the last time you saw children shows on 4/tv/? Might be a stupid question, I've never used the board.

Because it is a long-running kids show that didn't air in most anglo countries. Even so though, it's far more widely-recognized than many of the other big kids anime franchises (Nintama Rantarou, Shimajirou, Chibi Maruko-chan, etc.). And it's not like those series have a sizable otaku following in Japan either: they're just stuff people watch as kids and may have nostalgia for, but that's about it. As for my own feelings, I gave one of the old movies a try (movie 7, the mecha one) and also watched the Stand By Me Doraemon movie. It's... fine, and that's about it. Decent enough as far as kids movies go, but nothing remarkable. It's also blatantly a wish-fulfillment type of anime, which makes it less interesting to an adult audience than many of the other kids media classics.

It's not shounen so it doesn't exist
