What are the most emotionally impactful moments for you in what you've watched/read? Moments that really make you physically jump for joy, cry in despair, or feel sheer horror or shock. For me it's this moment in Punpun where those who know, know, and caused a flurry of joy, satisfaction, tension, and stress to bubble up all at the same time. A great turning point emphasized by the change in demeanor and message from God.

Spoilers ahead, of course, for it's hard to really talk about scenes in such vague terms most of the time.

Also was trying to think about it but is there any anime/manga equivalent scene that conveys as much stress, tension, and despair as this scene does. Hard to really think of even that many movies in general that go the extra mile to torment their audience like this, Punpun was one of my potential picks but it's somewhat more of a long-term thing and doesn't really give you a scene of pure horror like this. It's all quite sadder.

madoka's 3rd movie, seen it over 11 years ago, still can't get over it

I don't know if I can choose one specifically, there are a number of moments where I got extremely emotional about an anime/manga.
This one for example >>7444
Such a great movie.

One that comes to mind is Tatami Galaxy's last episode, that whole scene when Watashi yells out to Ozu. I find myself connecting to the themes of Tatami way too often still, I wish it was easier to fully learn from it.

I think Utawarerumono 2 and 3 are REALLY good at this, although for the second one it largely doesn't happen until near the end. The first one has some of it, but it's limited. Perhaps they were inexperienced or they just didn't want to dwell on it too much.
Utawarerumono 3 is an emotional rollercoaster and I think it's best to treat 2 and 3 as one since they did release one right after the other so it's intended as one shared experience. That's why it was so weird when 3's anime adaptation was like 6 years later. Anyway, emotions run the gambit of tragedy and triumph and it invokes a level of vulnerability in the male protagonists that few stories ever touch on. It's not even only tears of sadness, but you genuinely feel the tears of happiness during some moments. It's just that good, at least to me. I think Aquaplus/Leaf can tug at the heartstrings in a way that never feels exploitative.
As expected, though, the VN is the premiere way to experience it since the anime glosses over some things since it's 12 hours instead of 120. I still think it's there, though.

For me you can't have a great story without such powerful emotions in it and it's why many media greats that people speak highly of seem rather empty and uninteresting to me.
