it looks like it was back in 2020 that they made the leap from "ip crossovers for alternative art" to using them for wholly new cards, starting after the walking dead set and then the new category of universes beyond
i learned about this only a couple weeks ago when i came across the 2021 warhammer set, took me by surprise

Is WotC whoring themselves out really that surprising in modern times

¥ he buys WoTC shit
This is all your fault that they are still chugging along, fuck them, fuck their hold on TTRPG.

The crossover spam sucks but this is a really gay way to post about it.

Do they even make money off the actual cards anymore? Everyone I know that's into Magic and Yugioh only plays the games on console or PC these days. Most of them dump a ton of money into card packs or whatever randomized scam they're running these days to hook people into spending actual cash instead of farming for gems or whatever the in-game currency is called.
I tried to get into yugioh because my friend is really into it but it's just so damn boring. You know within 1-2 turns and sometimes at the draw if you're going to win or not and every game plays out the same way. You're forced to build a deck around whatever is over powered this month. If you do find something fun that's not in the "meta" it almost instantly gets banned or limited.
I had some fun playing food lolis (Madolche) but my friend would rage about them and the vtuber deck I built so he'd play some really overpowered deck every time. Then he'd rant about how I needed to play something else but it would have taken months to build another deck for free because the game is built to extract cash out of your wallet. If you setup a auto play bot to farm while you're away everyone reports your account for cheating. The player base seemed really awful. When I tried to play randoms online they either quit the moment their strategy failed or they'd let the timer run on each turn hoping I would get frustrated and quit.
Is playing IRL any better? I don't imagine it would be. The group my friends plays with on the internet play IRL and they're pretty annoying people that rage like children any time they lose. Most of them are black guys too. I don't know why but black guys love yugioh. I guess it's for the same reason they all love Dragon Ball Z. They're really into it and they don't treat it like a game they treat it like life or death struggle.
