I guess this is inevitable fate of all online games.

I am almost tempted to buy a Switch just for Splatoon 3 but I don't know how long the servers will last now that Switch 2 is coming, and I don't want to buy a Switch 2 and pay $80 dollars for a game.

splatoon 3 wasn't that good, I doubt its shutting down anytime soon because of backwards compatibility but I don't think it's worth it since you missed out on active splatfests

I never got to play Splatoon since I didn't have the consoles, but it looked really fun and seemed to have a good community. I feel like I missed out on something nice. If nothing else that little moment in time where the 'squid' and 'kid' thing was everywhere was quite entertaining.
I'd do what >>7038 said. It might not be fruitful to get into a game right now with the Switch 2 approaching.
