Was actually thinking about that while watching the massacre. Maybe in the story Jinwoo didn't want them to die, but the author certainly did. And he wanted to completely humiliate and belittle them in the process. From what I've seen, it seems like quite a prevalent theme across manwha to have Gate levels of nationalism, or anti-Japan nationalism, for some reason.
