It's fun and stuff

A game with a good story can be like a book, movie or any other narrative driven medium. Multiplayer games can either be coop, fun to play like TF2 or mentally stimulating.
>>2268I more or less gave up on multiplayer games with ranked matchmaking because of this, and because the MMR hampster wheel does nothing for anyone.

Generally, I see media as some kind of delayed communication, as in, I'm engaging with whatever the creator(s) wanted to express. It's kind of like a way to see the deeper ideas of what's going on inside someone's head without the need for real-time conversation; instead, I can just see their creative output. Hefty media consumption/engagement acts as some kind of surrogate for real conversation with others. In real life, I have to go through a lot of awkward small talk to get to the cool stuff, but when I'm watching an anime, I am immediately seeing what the creator finds cute, what philosophies they think are interesting, their perspective on (or rejection of) the world, etc. I actually have never cared much for multiplayer games for this reason, they are almost the 'small talk' of gaming in my mind.

I like games because they make their own little worlds to mentally inhabit. From the standpoint of addressing what you want out of it, games are communicating the things that are less easy to say in words. Stuff like aesthetics and mood.

>>4477This is how I like to approach media as well, and usually why it takes me a bit longer to watch stuff I find good since it's more like trying to find out what the author or director was saying at any given moment assuming they have a voice. I like it and it makes media appreciation feel a lot better than mindless consumption.
