Since this season is kind of... lacking, it's as good a time as any to catch up on some shows that you've told yourself you were going to watch one day. Or maybe it's the time to look around and just find a show for the first time and marathon it all at once!

So... are you watching anything older right now or recently? What did you think of it?

File:Hoozuki No Reitetsu S3 - 0….mp4 (23.75 MB,1280x720)

Recently I watched the entirity of Hoozuki no Reitetsu. Well, all except OVA 7 since it isn't translated. OVA 6 was just translated for the first time a couple months ago.
This is definitely my kind of show. Good character interactions featuring lots of Japanese, Chinese and other mythologies. I'm normally only exposed to Western mythology so I love learning about new stuff. Season 1 was the weakest, but then Season 2 really found its footing and Season 3 is probably slightly below 2 but still great.
I posted a clip from it here >>12564 and EDs I like from it starting here >>12779

Learning about Asian mythology is generally over my head since the names really blur together inside my brain, so visuals help a lot.

There are two basic episode types: Educational mythology stuff where an episode-specific character is introduced and then a more general episode focusing on interactions in Hell between established characters.
My favorite characters are Peach Maki, a hell idol, Shiro the divine dog companion of Momotaro and Koban the paparazzi cat.

Attached clip is an example of part of a mythology episode. It's a bit of a lore dump, I guess, but I find it very interesting. It's not always so, uh, speech heavy, but it explains what I mean when I say it's focused on mythology. Many episodes are more focused on the environment and interaction between established characters.
Anyway, GREAT SHOW!

Watched Dekiru Neko wa Kyou mo Yuuutsu around when the season started, was great fun.
It's from a couple seasons/years ago, about a cute OL who picks up a stray cat. The stray cat turns out to be more than just a cat, it becomes a HUGE house husband for the OL.
The studio behind it is GoHands, the ones behind momentary lily from a few seasons/years ago; you can just know it's the same studio if you've watched either of them (or even any of their previous works). They have a unique style to their anime which I can't say I hate. Though it almost made me drop it on the first episode because of how unorthodox it looked and how full of speech exposition it was. Glad I continued, a cute and heart warming yukkuri show. Recommend Kissu to try it if they haven't.

I've never been a big ongoing anime watcher. I'll pick up a show here or there (like City recently) but not enough to ever monopolize my time, so I mostly watch finished stuff. Halfway through season 3 of Jashin-chan Dropkick. About to catch up to the manga as well. Also watching Di Gi Charat Nyo.

I started with Urusei Yatsura (2022), but I'm not sure if I will continue. I'd rather read the manga first.

Well this wasn't part of my backlog but I'm currently watching Mahoujin Guru Guru (1994) and it's an amazing show. Very lighthearted and funny. If you like RPGs I think it's a great parody of Dragon Quest. It's also very cute!
There's apparently a remake from 2017 but I haven't seen it yet. They say it's equally good so you can choose whatever you prefer the old school or the digital era look.

I've been in the mood for historical military girls after finishing GuP so I'm currently watching Strike Witches. It doesn't quite scratch the same itch as gup did with its country stereotypes and military autism, but overall it's an enjoyable show with really cute girls and great JC-JK butts and boobers.

Been catching up on a bunch of 1-cour shows that I really should've watched a billion years ago. Nisemonogatari was amazing and hilarious, Dandadan was a slog to get through and disappointed me, Zero no Tsukaima was CUTE and I liked her pantsu, and now I'm watching Kill me Baby which is again very funny and cute.

Why not watch the original instead?

I did that too. I literally watched the new adaptation first, then the 70s version, and finally the manga to see which of the two animes was closer to the original work. One was too horny, the other played it too safe. The manga seems like the right middle point.

I am once again giving traditional Japanese comedy (Rakugo) a chanc with Uchi no Shishou wa Shippo ga Nai (2022)
They actually do explain what alot of the comedy routines are about, as well as the setup and props.
I like master Bunko here; such a cool gal with her short hair and smoking pipe. If it were me this is the only way women would be permitted to smoke.

I really loved the manga. Mameda and Bunko were so cute. All the characters were nice but Mameda really stole the show for me, very loveable character.
I didn't watch the anime though, but I think it ends just before the best arc begins.

I still think rakugo is lame but I guess if I consider there was far less to do in terms of entertainment back in the day, it's appealing then. Some of the stories were pretty good though and the themes and plots from the routines are woven into the main story of the manga quite well.
Also maybe it really is just a totally different experience live.

Anyway I hope you enjoy it, it's not very popular.

Just finished watching Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritiakute!
I'd watched it when it was first airing, but I don't know I guess I just forgot about it? Never watched the last couple episodes. That was a mistake, the final few episodes of season one were the best I'd seen in any recent anime. We got a great fight of Shadow fighting two of the strongest people introduced so far, they were of course no match for him. Lots of buildings and what not, city properties, destroyed in that battle. Then, he threatens to disintegrate the whole fucking capital city, "I am all range A T O M I C", he said. But decided not to.
I also like how it ended starting a few interesting of storylines, notably Iris's and Rose's. I actually felt bad for Iris when she was left crying at her powerlessness. She was supposed to be the symbol of power for her country, it was her stage, but Shadow showed her how powerless she is in front of the one person she didn't want to lose to.
That's another thing about this anime, it made me feel for the characters. I felt their losses, their regrets, and their joys too, of course.
The second season fell short in comparison to the first, but still a great season nonetheless. The second season expanded on Rose's storyline. Found it funny that Shadow, who supported Rose, had the completely wrong idea as to what her goal was, but I guess it turned into her goal one way or the other. Rose's story was truly tragic, left with no choice but to kill her own father, hated by her own people, betrayed by her own mother, but in the end, hopefully she's able to rise strong. If there ever is a new season, I hope they dive more into Rose.
Though the second season ended with Shadow using a move so powerful, it lighted up the whole solar system, then created a blackhole. A blackhole that took him to this previous world. So there might not be much of Rose or any of the other isekai girls even if there was a next season.
Not to mention the myriad of cute and sexy girls. Lots of cool scenes too, but that's the name of the game for this show. Glad they were able to maintain a good quality throughout both the seasons.
Great show if you like chuuni shit like Overlord.

My problem with it was that the protagonist isn't in any way relatable.

For me is the opposite, the MC is very relatable.

Of all the things I considered for filling the gap in this season, Inferno Cop was not one of them. Goes great for quick watching during a small break.
