I bought a wireless trackball because it was cheaper and the wired version of the trackball wasn't in stock when I needed a new pointing device. It flashes a red LED light whenever the batteries are running low.

Two or three weeks ago the batteries I put in it months ago started to run out of juice and the light came on. I pulled both of them out and switched the order they were in by putting the top battery in the bottom slot and the bottom battery in the top slot. It is now weeks later and there is no indication that they're running out of juice.

Why is technology like this? I wonder if this trackball has been only draining one battery this entire time and if I've been throwing good batteries away all this time.

I used to have a wireless Microsoft mouse back in the day. It was my first mouse with a laser instead of a ball. That thing would chew through double As quickly. It was horrible for playing FPS games as well.

What pointing device does kissu use? I need a new mouse for playing video games. The Razer one someone gifted me years ago shit the bed and can't properly track anymore. Even when it worked it was never good. It would randomly stop working mid-game and I'd have to run around like an idiot and wave it around until it woke up. It also installed a bunch of background applications for some reason that was spyware. I want to buy a good mouse that will last for years to pair with my trackball but everything on the market looks like it's junk. All of them have bad reviews and everyone says the switches in them fail after only about a year of use.

A Razer Naga Left-handed Edition, sadly. I have owned 4 or 5 of these in total, 3 directly from the store (both the 2014 and 2020+ editions) and 1 or 2 second-hand (2014). I also reluctantly got a Razer BlackWidow keyboard because the MMO I played would only respond to Synapse macros and I'm too stupid to get Auto Hotkey and similar macro software to work through Anticheat, or whatever it is the game uses to prevent such things.

It's only 2 product lines (3 if we count a different edition), but all of these are and have been the shittiest, most overpriced garbage I've ever had the misfortune of using. Every single mouse was completely unusable by the time the warranty ran out and already developed a multitude of issues (less important buttons dying; double-clicking for no reason) way before that - things I could work around and didn't want to skip out on my game for for 2 weeks while waiting for a replacement. I'd unironically have to make use of their warranty every 2 months if I wanted to use their hardware with no issues. The keyboard miraculously is still in working condition, though it will periodically have issues with registering keystrokes for no reason because I've already deepcleaned it twice.

I hate that company. I've talked to like between 15 - 20 other people who own Razer products (acquaintances or people in games) and never once has anyone ever had anything positive to say, it's always the same story. The products ARE good when they DO work, but they don't for long and even if they did, they'd still be overpriced. Yet, if I google these issues, most people seem to say that they've never had issues. There is absolutely no way those people are telling the truth. The "aesthetic" is shit too, it's all shit.
I have since stopped playing that game, which means I can finally get something proper once my current set isn't worth trying for anymore. As for why I was so stupid to lash out so much money for things I already knew were a waste of money: They're the only company that makes left-handed mice with 12 thumb buttons and I'm too stubborn to get rid of muscle memory that goes back to the 90s.

TL;DR: Never ever get anything Razer, but I also have nothing to recommend. I used to just use any cheap mouse for 10 - 20 bucks before I wanted MMO mice and those all served me just fine. I don't play shooters though and just assume an addict wouldn't like those.

I've been using a Logitech G203 for the past few years. Nothing fancy but it works fine, and it's pretty cheap too.

To relieve strain on my dominant hand I bought a lefty vert mouse.
Not sure if I like this model; it was $80 and didn't come with a bluetooth dongle even. Coming from a trackball it feels comically light too.

Also give a shoutout to my TorX10.
That little nigga has 11 years of gaming service without a single button lost.

Does that mean you're right-handed and bought the left-handed one for that reason? Interesting. I should try something like that sometime, although I don't think it would fit on my desktop layout.

is that a thumb trackball or a index+middle?

Thumbstyle, trying it with index and middle feels awkward. I have a used to use a Kensington slimblade wired ball mouse but it had a button stop working and with 4 buttons that was too much to deal with.

hm. All I use is a finger based trackball(Elecom Huge). I do use a conventional mouse for some things but I have no problem with it

Should something happen to my current trackball I will be replacing it with an Elecom.
