Girls loving girls?!

Going to try and assume this thread is in good faith and propose a thought I had while looking at what's popular with female users on Pixiv. Aside from Jojo x Touhou art, one of the other big themes amongst them also seemed to be Yuri ships. The highest of all time being Kaguya/Mokou but I'm not sure if I'd call that their favorite ship or just a result of the artist who made the images being insanely popular because you don't see much else of that particular couple much of anywhere else at the top outside of him, and in terms of overall presence among works its less than others. In fact there's a really high concentration of similar artists near the top of the charts when you look at Touhou+Yuri with female users. Which probably influences what pairings in particular look the most popular, though sadly for poor Alice it seems like while the percentages of Marisa/Reimu vs Marisa/Alice are both pretty high, Reimu edges out Alice by a fair bit and also dominates the popularity charts.

One of the most surprising to me since I don't pay too much attention to yuri is that very close to Marisa/Alice in terms of total images is Meiling/Sakuya. Which also has a fair presence across the top charts as well. It's somewhat funny to see given how submissive/tsundere it makes Sakuya comes off. Guess girls really like their shoujo tropes.

They're all mostly boring to be quite honest but the only ones that made me think "Cute!" were the SFW doujin works featuring Alice/Patchouli and Shanghai/Koakuma, by the mangaka who did the fanwork of Shinki going to the SDM to visit Alice like a mom. I forgot the name unfortunately.

As a mostly 2hu secondary, my only experience with Touhou outside of TH6 is the yuri showing up in recent romance yuri uploads.
I know almost nothing about their lore, but I can't help but read them when they show up. I even bought and played some yuri touhou rpgmaker VN. What little I can tell is Touhou fans are very dedicated and care a lot for their characters. I'm a little jealous.
Marisa x Reimu seems to be the most common.

God, I love RenMeri so, so much it's unreal, there is literally nothing better than RenMeri. The fact that it's doomed and tragic just makes it better.
Who cares about any of the other ships if the best relationship is RenMeri. RenMeri is the thing everyone should aspire to in their life. RenMeri!

My favorite touhou just has no decent love interests and no Wriggle does not work for me at all.

There's something bittersweet about those doomed to tragedy romances, and the difference in lifespan brings a great conflict to it. Do they try to extend the life of the youngest through potentially dangerous or forbidden means? Or does the eldest take their life (or try to if hourai) to join their lover in death? Do they come to terms with their fate and accept the time they have left together?
