Do you otoMAD?

 No.93039

I'll click an otoMAD - AND WATCH IT

 No.93053

I usually only ever experiment with sound-only for my own entertainment anymore, and very rarely. Even when no one is watching, it's still fun once the creative juices get flowing. As for consumption, I kind of lost interest when the overwhelming majority of good productions started to focus almost entirely on pitch-shifting. Not that it's bad, I just really miss the variety and rhythm, I think it helps a lot to make certain parts stand out more and feel exceptionally special!

nothing wrong with pitch shifting as long as you keep the timbre of the sample alive imo

i've always liked the balance these vids strike between something intended to make you laugh and showing off their skills to make genuinely creative sampled music

Not more than something like mixing two songs together with some slight editing, but it'd be quite a stretch to call that otoMAD/YTPMVs by even the broadest definition of it, so not really.
But i love watching them! I don't know how much time i've spend on watching them by now.
And sometimes i do wish i had the musical talent and time to learn music/video editing and pitch shifting etc. to make one myself...

It's kind of broad spectrum of what you can do or focus on, but i also like those that strike the balance between creative use of the samples and being nice to listen to. Some i think do lean a bit too much into just sounding like a real song where the samples sounds like proper notes and you can't really tell what the samples are. On the other hand some are fun to watch but becomes a bit too "crude" to listen to by my musical ear.
I like being able to listen to a nice song but being able to tell what each sample is and how it contributes to making up the song.

funky. haywyre would make something like that, they have a tasty sound, and thank god it's sampled because i couldn't stand the thought of someone being able to make this entirely from scratch.

I promise you that you don't need any music-related experience at all to get started! So long as you learn the very basics of any DAW or similar software, you can completely ignore all theory and just match samples with your BGM's waveform. Pitch-matching can be done entirely by ear, by constantly replaying a sample on top of the BGM and shifting its pitch until it and the BGM's note sound even. Figuring out what sounds "even" is something you will naturally develop with practice and there's always the option to lower the playback speed to help you match shorter notes easier. To put samples in rhythm, align them with the drums / sudden spikes in the BGM's waveform and experiment some until you're satisfied. Once you got comfortable with the process, you can still learn about music theory, BPM, audio effects and mixing later on.

What song source is that? Big Brother? or Godish maybe? It's hard to keep track of all these sources...
>you don't need any music-related experience at all to get started!
Oh don't get me wrong. I do have a keyboard and some some basic music knowledge anyway, so i'd probably be able to give it an attempt even without any talent for it... had i the time and energy for it.
Right now work and other responsibilities keep me so busy that even my keyboard is starting to fall into disuse, so the idea of finding the time to sit down and painstakingly trying to pitch shift a sample 100 times by ear to make a ytpmv just isn't realistic unless i want to sacrafice even more sleep... sigh...
But if i loose my job and become a NEET, i'd probably give it a try. And maybe start with one of those shorter ones like my first ytpmv or something...

God-ish it is!
That does sound rough, I'm sorry to hear that and hope you're at least getting other fun activities in for a good balance. Or hopefully find a more convenient j*b. You seem passionate about the craft from a consumer's perspective, so it would be sad if there was no way to make room for some testing here and there!

 No.94502

I don't mean to shift the topic into something negative, but revisiting old otoMADs or looking up japanese creators from back then often gets me genuinely sad and sometimes even teary-eyed. It is nice that the genre still lives on at least in some way, but it feels to me like as if it has lost its overwhelming sense of community effort and excitement. Things like the sudden appearence of the Hammer tag and the tons of high-quality creations and collaborations that followed shortly after. You could check a number of tags daily and would always find something new and see certain groups even overlap in interesting ways.

I once rediscovered the social media account of a japanese creator I used to follow and saw that he was posting about depression and whatnot. I really hope that guy and others like him made it. There have also been positive news, though, like some creators who are now working in professional video production and similar fields.

Nice that i got it! But is there no YT/NND source for it?
And don't worry, it pays the bills so it's really not that bad. I have a few friends to play game with sometimes, and have a bike to travel with on sunny days, so it's not like it don't have any free time at all. I'm just spread a bit too thin for anything more that i already want to do (or need to do) is all.
>You seem passionate about the craft from a consumer's perspective
I do! I love how creative they can be! And still somehow sound great! Of course, for ever good video there's 100 shuric scan veg replaces that sucks, but i don't care about those. Finding one that hits you just right is just the greatest feeling.
But yeah, it would've been nice if i could one day "do something that everyone will look back on" but i just don't see how to do that right now...
>>94502
I've never been much on the NND/japanese side of it, mostly just seen what spread to YT, or what i've dug up myself, but i think YT has had as similar shift. With the centralization of the internet most of these kind of communities probably diminished quite a bit. But i'm not sure if i feel like it's really that depressingly absent. I'm still finding new things and i feel like trends happen on the YTPMV side still. I mean, i found lag train first after the numerous ytpmv/otoMAD parodies of it.
And here's (vid related) an otoMAD using the shikanoko anime, that's not even a year old.
So i can't say i entirely feel the same honestly, but i've never been directly involved with the community, so to take that as you want.

Agreed. Non non biyori is really cute has much that works well for ytpmv/otomad.

Guess i learned about a new anime today, pani poni dash. Actually, the amount of animes and music i've found because of a ytpmv/otomad is probably far too much.
Anyway, here's a kemono friends one.
