I still see him everyday on steam playing Overwatch.
He just stopped posting because he couldn't take the bullying anymore. I actually liked him. We even played the Monster Hunter Rise demo together and he seemed like a nice guy, but I guess I dropped my spaghetti too hard in the voice chat lol

Kaiki is so cool. The coolest.

It sounds like a joke at first, but I think gamers back then were able to learn typing faster than others due to the video game repercussions of typing slowly. Tangible results.

yeah, he's actually the only enjoyable thing about the monogatari franchise after Bakemonogatari. I watched all of it, and only Kizumonogatari and Kaiki were enjoyable. Everything else was boring slop.

Sex appeal of the girls aside I have to agree. Well, and the visuals were great.

I'm sorry, but I must say that I think that people who hold this (quite common) opinion are simpletons. Kaiki doesn't have much depth as a character. Rather, it's the circumstances and scenarios involving him that are intriguing. Ougi/Araragi are much more interesting and well developed. I like every single Monogatari character besides Gaen, so I'm very opposed to this thing of overrating Kaiki in favor of everyone else.

 No.91099

any arc where Shinobu/Kiss-sot is a focal point is the best

 No.91100

I liked Bake and then I watched a few episodes of Nise years later and thought they were awful and then I never touched Monogatari again.

I'm a big fan of the series, and Kaiki and Ougi are tied for my favorite. I think you're overcorrecting against the contrarians and are underselling him. With his relatively meagre time in the spotlight, Kaiki thoroughly explores his theme of fakeness and leaves a stark impression on most readers/watchers. I think the former of those things is enough to call him deep. For you to say that he, as a character, is only incidental to that is splitting hairs. Would you mind explaining your criteria?

Well, he doesn't get much development unlike the main cast and is there mainly to guide Hitagi, Nadeko and then finally Kanbaru in their affairs. Basically a parenting figure once you get past the conman act (which is likely related to his curse, he must've been forced to lie and trick people as punishment). The message of his character is simple; that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. You can't boil down Ougi/Araragi like that. They are much more complex in comparison, so to say Kaiki is the only good thing about Monogatari is to completely overlook that.

>>91119
WE'VE HAD THIS DISCUSSION BEFORE
if you repeatedly see people saying kaiki is the best or even the only good part of monogatari, and your retort is that he's not developed like the other characters, then surely you must understand that the problem lies precisely in the way in which monogatari goes about carrying out their development

 No.91121

>>91114
why do think that?

 No.91125

>>91121
there are several parts where everything slows down to a crawl for the sake of going over her backstory, or her explaining the details of oddities, and both of these are when monogatari is at its lowest
kabuki for example is easily one of the worst arcs
i much prefer when she's not the focal point, but has enough presence to generate fun moments with araragi

 No.91128

>>91119
Well if you're saying that depth means needing a larger amount of words to summarize, I can't say you're wrong for thinking that. I don't think that that definition necessarily correlates it strongly with quality though. Kaiki may not be try to tackle as many ideas as Araragi, but he completely nails all of what he does do. He doesn't change as much as the younger cast - and he shouldn't, he's a grown man - but he does have a full perceivable self with habits, priorities, desires, persona, etc. I may be rambling now, but he is clearly someone who has changed before even if we don't witness as much of that firsthand.

Yes, that's why I said it's the scenarios involving him that are intriguing rather than himself alone. The two main arcs with Hitagi and Nadeko are great, but they would fall flat if they focused too much on Kaiki as a character rather than the people he was giving life lessons to. That's how a mentor/parenting character works. He's there mainly to assist in the development of other characters, mainly Nadeko, who's also a great character in my opinion, very underrated unlike Kaiki.

 No.92288

Nadeko's arc is the best, but nothing else compares.

I like how the Nadeko arc basically calls Araragi a dumb shonen protagonist
