I think it's important to stay informed, but I get why others don't. The news has become heavily sensationalized over the years, and it can be overwhelming. But you should still be keeping up with things, even if it's in a limited capacity.

Why do you people think kissu is the place to take a massive crap on the atmosphere with a post like this? Do you see other posts like this here? No?
THERE IS A REASON FOR THAT!

 No.4001

Mhh, I personally don't think there is a "should" in keeping up with things if you don't benefit from the process directly. For me as a NEET at least there is no real incentive, no money in the stock market or anything like that.
I do keep up with news on certain software or franchises I like and use, though, that's mostly been fun or at least interesting.

honestly there are times where at this point it just seems like mental self harm which is why i mostly treat the news as if it were entertainment. have been watching a lot of TLDR news, they cover international conflicts and geopolitics which are interesting

I sometimes wonder if people use global news for entertainment rather than info
Plenty of people in Europe follow along with American politics but then conversely don't know their local officials or even prime minister because it's not as entertaining
Though I'm not sure if that's worth judging, there's certainly worse hobbies out there

>Plenty of people in Europe follow along with American politics but then conversely don't know their local officials or even prime minister because it's not as entertaining
That's pretty much the case for me, though I don't go out of my way to look up said news and just click a random video to have something playing in the background. It's both info and entertainment, something mildly interesting to me that I don't have to actively pay attention to.

The vast majority of it is fake and made to make you think a certain way, its fine to ignore everything other than local news
Unless you live in a major city, then its fine to ignore that too

 No.4006

I don't need to watch the news to keep up with when the people or corps ruining society die. I'll hear about it elsewhere.

No! Society is far too scary and depressing.
I want wake up feeling like there's still a reason to live... otherwise what's even the point?

It's a long-lasting mecha otaku 3D clipping tradition that's at least as old as Gundam Breaker and Machinecraft. Possibly even older.

There's an Autumn Reitaisai or something.

I try not to, I browse certain websites for entertainment or to stay informed about internet and technology stuff since there can be actually important news like data breaches, new Internet regulations. policy changes, etc., but there's always politics getting shoved down your throat. Youtube is the worst regarding this, they'll put it in your algorithm no matter what. No one should waste their time and energy following events which you have 0 control about, only do it when it's something that can directly affect you and only if you can act upon it for your own benefit.

I try to read the news from Japan since the online spaces I frequent are always bringing up JP politics and I have only the faintest idea of what they're talking about. It's probably better Japanese reading material than eroge and futaba funpsots anyway, but it's so boring I end up not reading much.

Human perception is inherently unreliable, so you're never going to fully escape that no matter what you do.

My advice is to use something like Ground News, which aggregates a bunch of news from a bunch of different sources and summarizes it. You may not still be getting a fully accurate picture of things, but it'll be a more complete one.

>>4010
World events will trickle back to you sooner or later. Being aware of these things gives you a chance to prepare and, in the case of things like the payment processor bullshit, fight back.

I try to separate the news into different levels of engagement depending on how strongly it affects me:

1. General news: Skim the headlines once or twice a week. Ignore the sports, celebrity and lifestyle sections. Filter buzzwords. Read the remaining articles only if the headline sounds like a major change from the status quo. Remember key points only if they're actionable.
2. News that relates to my interests: Find a site considered reputable by people I consider generally trustworthy. Read every article that seems relevant. Follow source links, read them, and use my own findings as a test of the site's editorial standards. If a site doesn't have a habit of citing its sources or puts too blatant of a spin on them, I remove it from my rotation.
2a. Follow sites that analyze the structural developments behind the news related to my interests without taking sides too blatantly. This is arguably the most important step to stay informed without feeling outraged or helpless.
3. Never become obsessed enough with the news to post about it unprompted.

OP here, this is basically my approach.

I'll also add that you should limit the time you spend thinking about current events to when you're reading the news and right after. If I see something important that requires me to take some kind of action, I'll take that action, and then spend the rest of my day thinking about things I actually enjoy thinking about.

Valve finally gutted the CS2 gambling market and fucked over all the whales. Over $3 billion in market cap lost as of now and still going down. I'm loving it.

My logical side says idiots at Valve could've just fragmented the pricey items so the pricey trading stays in-house, within Steam wallet limits.
My reasonable side glees.

> But above all we wanted people to play CS:GO because it was a fun game. We didn't want to turn it into some kind of grim pachinko parlor, with players grinding out matches just to get random loot box drops. So you have to balance the potentially real dollar random rewards so that they're a fun surprise but not economically attractive enough to become a job.
Uh maybe the game was exactly trash? Nobody talks about gutting TF2 for a reason.

I agree to a point but concern and interest are separate things. I am not concerned about the situation in France, Germany or the UK, it won't impact me at all. But I still like to see what's happening there.

>At the end of 1994, U.S. President Bill Clinton invited Covey, along with other authors, to Camp David to counsel him on how to integrate the book's ideas into his presidency.

>In August 2011, Time listed 7 Habits as one of "The 25 Most Influential Business Management Books".

>Upon Covey's death in 2012, the book had sold more than 20 million copies.

Does this sound like "braindead execution" to you? How many of your own life's accomplishments compare to just these few? Have some self-respect, don't be Dunning-Kruger dimwitted.

appeal to authority and marketing are very weird and don't address the point. y'know, dumb products for dumb consumers. moreover dunny krieg is debunked. maybe try to shill deleuze next time? the weirdo wouldn't fuck up like this

¥ allegedly smart folks I've never met told me I shouldn't concern myself with an earthquake wrecking my house right now, and I should start a business right now actually
you're not seriously arguing for this to be adequate, are you?
surely you're above black and white thinking that is dogmatic in castrating any amount of thinking outside of the box?

 No.4064

any business startup books that Epstein liked? could really use some of that intellectual influential famous successful genius grind mindset right now. I'm not like the dimwit people, I actually know real authority when I see it.
