I have a favorite show of the season so far, and it's this supernatural/horror one. It says a lot because I hate horror. The production values are top notch, the style and especially the sound design stand out above anything else out there currently. Granted, many shows weren't out yet when I watched this yesterday.
The studio? Cygames. The evil gacha conglomerate that brought us Apocalypse Hotel and Uma Musume last season, shows with truly fantastic atmosphere. They've done it again. Granted, this one isn't an original creation of theirs.

There's also an emotional component to the story and that's one of the things that hooks me into a show. You know, actually caring about what happens to the characters.
I'll have to dump some clips from this later to demonstrate what I'm talking about with the visuals and sound design, but I also think it's something people need to go in blind to watch... so go do it!

I'm going to reserve talking about it until something really happens. Sure the art is good, but I'm not a person to post screencaps.

Stuff did happen! But, yeah, it was more of an introduction to the world. There's basically setting the mood. I thought it used some really good techniques to set the atmosphere, like this scene for police lights.
I'm going to give it a few more days before I start dumping stuff, but I was really impressed.

Something interesting they did was cover the first two manga chapters, but also immediately introduce in anime-original scenes a character who starts to get involved way later, at the start of volume 3. Might be an early hook, or a sign that they've changed up the pacing.
It looks great, the only thing that concerns me is how the monster looks. Scenes like this one may be hard to pull off.

>It looks great...
I imagine some of the visuals are directly from the manga, like this view that cropped up a few times with different coloring. It seems very much like a thing a manga would do. I looked at the thread on anilist briefly before the episode came out and it seemed like a common fear that people were worried that it wouldn't transfer to anime well.
I haven't looked at the manga so I can't compare, but I can say the anime looks truly amazing with fantastic style. How much of it is taken directly from the manga and how much is creative embellishment is maybe something I'll have to compare later on.

I'm getting Parasyte vibes from this, so I will probably enjoy watching further.

That was scary...
Haven't watched an actual scary horror show in a long time.

Seeing something mainstream and so nonchalantly yaoi is interesting for a change. Normally just gets stuffed to the backchannels.

The fujo crowd must be dying for something since Gundam went Yuri

This is still really great, even if the rest of the season is amazingly strong as well. This episode really has been the culmination of everything sort of coming together. I think it's been great to watch Hikaru slowly struggle with the idea of life vs death after the incident with Kaoru. He says he doesn't really get it but at the same time there's a nagging feeling that's eating at him over it, enough so that he gave part of himself over to Yoshiki to stop himself from killing. He's got at least some sort of sense to understand that what he did affected Yoshiki enough to make him pull the act he did, and now he's caught up in the question of "what doth life" as it seems the frailty of being human is somewhat affecting him in subtle ways, although I have no idea what's going on with after the end of today's episode because being beheaded seems a step above the norm in injuries.

Ah whoops, yeah I forgot to keep posting in this thread. It is really nice.
I agree that my favorite plot point is "Hikaru" struggling to understand what life or death is. Creating an empathetic monster while maintaining his otherness is a pretty difficult thing to do.
The visuals are still really good too!
I should make another post soon since it's hard for me to write about it after it's been a week.

It's alright, I've been gaming and studying so much that I've been extremely tardy on all the anime I've wanted to watch so I haven't been posting about it as much either...

Maybe Parasyte was actually a series based on japanese spirit religion than it was a story about nature

Pretty good episode this week. I like how the horror is slowly becoming less horrific since there's an explanation behind it. I guess that's sort of how it works, huh?

Hmm... lots of mysteries. I really wonder what the sunglasses guy is supposed to be doing. It seems like since the beginning he's been a source of chaos with questionable motives.
'Hikaru' meanwhile has become more endearing. Basically the story has done the classic PoV switch where the viewer's allegiances end up switching as you learn more.

Don't think I ever liked glasses guy.

The MurderVillage things was somewhat anticipated, but the Hikaru parts of it and how everyone is going to fit together into the narative is very interesting

Glasses guy seemed like the typical antihero. Hikaru did eat someone in the first episode and he seemed to be tracking the monster that did it, so you're sort of rooting for him to prevent other people from dying. The barrier around the festival definitely made him seem like he's protecting the village, but his motivations in doing it now seem questionable.
I'm guessing he directly serves or possibly might be a some sort of god or otherworldly entity, hence his organ sacrifice thing or however that works. Maybe?
