Does getting 8 hours of sleep really do all the miracle work people say it does on your brain?

No, I need 9 to 10 hours to function properly.

 No.156493

You practically die when you sleep, and when you wake up, you simply take control of a aged up clone of yours.

 No.156494

7 to 8 hours of sleep is one of the bare minimum things you need to function. This means your life will be miserable if you consistently fail to meet this requirement, but just because you've slept enough, doesn't mean your life goes on "easy mode" or some other "superpowers" which reddit for example, might have told you about. put simply, a well-rested body and mind is capable of working hard, and working hard is up to you.
It's also not just the duration. You also need to keep your sleep and wake time consistent, or you'll just end up sleepy all day because your brain is confused.

Personally I find 6-7 to be the sweet spot.

I feel and act stupider if I don't sleep for 8 hours. That's enough proof for me.

Haven't had more than 5.5 hours of sleep for a long time, except on the weekends/holidays when I sleep 7-8 hours. But even on the weekends I don't go back to sleep after I first wake up (unless it was <6 hours)

My sleep cycle is all over the place. Sometimes awake during the day, sometimes it's at night, sometimes I do a 4 hour nap, sometimes I sleep 6 hours, sometimes I sleep 12. Certainly not very healthy or good for mind and body, but while sleep is good I also want to stay up with jaypissu friends.
It'll work itself out eventually.

But are you fine with it? I just slept for 12 hours and i feel awful and irresponsable. Personally, i haven't seen any disavantage on 3-6 hours sleep so i'm trying to achieve that.

FOr the past 3 or so years I've been unable to sleep more than 5-6 hours and I definitely feel like I can't communicate as well. I make typos more often and even switch words out. Talking IRL is even worse, but meh I've never been good at that.
So yeah, I'd say it's important.

I am old now and can barely sleep 6 hours if I want to. I preferred when I was younger and could sleep 12+ whenever I wanted. I like sleep. I like dreaming. It's much more fun than being awake.

I can't stand having a normal schedule. My brain is built different. For years I couldn't sleep at all unless I was awake 48+ hours then I'd crash for 12. Now I can't stay up longer than 12 hours and I only sleep for 4-5. I've lived with constant jet lag so long I don't know what it feels like to be normal anymore.

I look forward to the final sleep. If my dreams (or other lives or whatever they are) are any indication it'll be much more comfy than the waking life I have here. Sleep is better. I don't feel pain when I'm asleep.

if you can't sleep, then do some zundou to get tired enough
and if you're lacking energy, you should ALSO do some zundou
there are no downsides

I can go to bed and barely get 8 hours if I go to bed right now..... but I don't want to so I need to force myself...
This is why sleep sucks

 No.158269

Decided to go all out on bamboo sheets, a really nice memory foam pillow, and one of those 4-inch thick memory foam mattress pads for my bed since I’d not been enjoying sleep all that much, and now I finally get it. What people mean when they say they enjoy sleeping. It’s so comfortable to lie down and relax on I don’t want to get out.

I need some new sheets, what are these like? Are they known for being good?

You're supposed to sleep somewhere between 7 and 9. I assume people say 8 because it's right in the middle.

After being in really jice hotels andplaces all around Japan. I’ve got to say despite how nice the hospitality was and all the beds just can’t compare to the one I have at home. As soon as I got into it I fell asleep for a good 8-9 hours and I felt so comfortable waking up I may sleep another 8-9 more. It’s so nice being able to sleep and sleep soundly, and then wake up wantjng to sleep some more instead of wanting to get out of bed.

Is there actually a difference with fancier more expensive mattresses or is it all marketing?

Mostly marketing. Water bed has always been the superior option.

I hear they're a huge pain in the ass to maintain. Having to clean up the insides ever so often to not foster giant mold colonies.

 No.160484

>>160482
I had two for decades and they were never an issue with cleaning. Fill them up and pour in a cap of bleach. They stay mold free forever.

Nothing compares to being able to control the temperature of your bed. I kept mine warm and toasty in winter and cool in summer.

They're just like any other bed once you finish setting them up. By that I mean all you have to do is change/wash sheets every now and again. Maybe set the temp. twice a year. My last one was a huge king size bed with tons of storage space under it in the form of drawers. I miss it every day.

You know thinking about the mold thing it must be something people that have never slept on one parrot as an excuse for not trying them. Even if they molded it wouldn't matter. Since it'd be inside the water mattress so you'd never know. I never used bleach in mine when I had to re-fill them and the water always came out clean when I drained them during moves. They're easier to move than a regular bed too because the frame breaks down into easy to move parts and the water bladder is much easier to move around than a mattress.

The only issue I had with mine was the water bladder springing a leak in the corners twice in 25+ years. But it was always a slow leak and easy enough to patch with a patch kit.

The only downside I can see is the fact that they're heavy once you've filled them so you don't want to put them over a weak sub-floor. Which is the main reason I think that some apartment complexes banned them in the past.

I've never found a more comfy way to sleep. It's like sleeping on a warm/cold cloud. Ultimate comfy. Nothing compares. I've been suffering with a nice queen sized expensive mattress that people rave about being super comfy and it's no where near as comfy as my water beds. There are no pressure points with a water bed. No need to roll over every few hours. No matter how you sleep you feel like you're floating on air.

I really want a water bed now

 No.160488

I would need to go to bed at around 8pm and sure as fuck I won't fall asleep so early, at least most of the time.
Ironically enough, I can accidentally nap for a hour or three right after work and dinner, but then of course I won't fall asleep most of the night.
I tried various things, but it's all hit or miss.
I suspect I might have ADHD, but I'm not sure if it's causing sleep issue or is caused by it.

Water beds make me nauseous, or they did when I was a teen which was the last time I was on one of them. I can understand how people would like them, but for me 'no thanks'. All that sloshing around outside of my direct control, it's a recipe for disorientation.

The fancy new bed I got was great for the hot summer because of all the cooling fabric in it and the sheets, but come winter I’ve been feeling a bit chilly and only now realized I should just buy a fuzzy blanket to stay warm.

It’s quite effective.
