No.155361
I just noticed that the last 音MAD thread seems to have vanished, so I decided to make a new one.
¥ Post and / or discuss 音MAD of all styles
Feel free to post random videos or your own creations! YTPMVs are allowed as well.
¥ Talk about the culture (and relevant sub-cultures)
General culture and sub-cultures such as Gachi, KYM, Cookie☆, (...)
¥ Talk about anything related to the process of making
Such as questions, tips, discoveries, (...)
Attached is what I consider to be the perfect showpiece for a revival.
I'd like to give a little context and share my excitement about this video in particular: As was previously discussed in the last thread, for better or for worse, 音MAD have changed a lot over the past 10+ years. This maker - presumably new blood, registered sometime between late 2018 and late 2020 - uploaded this masterpiece almost 4 years ago, combining two classic NND staples (Last Brutal Sister Flandre S and Spidama) into what feels like an homage to NND's original 音MAD culture. The composition features various techniques that spawned from other popular Flandre S uploads, both old and new, and pays respect to at least two Flandre S x Spidama uploads that came before it, but got deleted due to copyright issues.
The japanese comments unanimously celebrate this "return to form" by leaving sweet comments on how emotional / nostalgic the video made them feel and advertising it with points, showing that a more classic approach to making is still very much appreciated and in demand.

I've never been huge into Gachi and just in general have only really been consuming content from the sidelines, but that is some rather impressive and extremely interesting research that anon seems to have done, even providing sources. I know that the western community has been doing a lot of crowdsourcing for these cultures in private, though that anon seems to be a purist and might've just done all that digging by himself.
Somewhat unrelated, but there are also people like Nameless Rumia, possessing an insane amount of background knowledge on things that I assume happened a couple of years before their time, though I might very well be wrong in his case. It feels especially surreal when those people turn out to be much younger than you.

>>155365It's a place where people's points and arguments don't go unchallenged. However, the site does discourage low quality posts, like ragebait and shitposting (outside of a specific board). An anon I spoke to from a live townhall, said that 22chan is basically an "anti-imageboard" in the modern sense; where stereotypical imageboards like 4chan are full of ragebaiters and tourists not wanting to assimilate into traditional internet culture to the point where it is not the same 4chan as the one the internet revered back in the classic era. The staff seems rather protective into making sure a lot of what makes modern internet culture awful stays out, and completely stays out, but it comes at a cost of activity since most modern internet users have very low attention spans, poor social/communication skills, and lack desire to explore and learn various interests compared to the internet of old.
>>155366It's clear that anon is a dying breed of otaku that is over-obsessed to an unhealthy degree because nerds and geeks back in the day showed absolute genuine care and sincerity, or told you to fuck off and either: lurk more, or find something else you're interested in, and don't come back until you actually give a shit about (insert subject matter here). There's still plenty of other threads not limited to gachimuchi you can lurk, so I'm not sure why you limited yourself to that one. Just go explore and share stuff you find interesting in threads already made for your certain interest, or make your own thread if you searched hard enough to find one you don't find appropriate to share in. Be the change.

>>155371Gachimuchi went through this interesting cultural handoff:
Japan -> West -> China&Russia.
The Japanese focused on elaborate video editing, then Westerners leaned on audio mixing. Later the Chinese did some sort of hybrid, and Russians/slavs mostly focused on song edits, which is the most recent (and probably final) form of Gachi content.

>>155365>>155383Speaking of ievan polkka and gachimuchi, i love when cultures cross in 音MADs/YTPMVs, be it japanese finding a finnish polka song or a swedish disco dance song, or westerners finding semi-obscure japanese songs or some other obscure thing. The remixes and further exchanges that comes out of it can be pretty fun and creative.

>How the heck did you do that? How do people even make audio thumbnails...The audio side might be a little hard to explain in a single reply that is comprehensible enough to maintain interest.. But for the thumbnail, I grabbed the Kissu placeholder, edited in frames of a .gif, saved the final result as another .gif and embedded it into the .mp3 via Winamp!
I usually embed "cover arts" within REAPER in the Metadata options of the render window (this should be possible with most audio software), but this only works for still .jpgs and .pngs. I saw there are also random online tools that can do this for you quickly.
Using Winamp to force a .gif was the only way I got this to work and it even threw an error, so I get the feeling this is anything but intended.

>Using Winamp to force a .gif was the only way I got this to work and it even threw an error, so I get the feeling this is anything but intended.Yeah, tried to make it work with both mp3tag and ffmpeg and both of them refused the gif (or just forced it down into a still image).
Had to fire up the old VLC player i somehow still had to get something that would mindlessly embed a gif as a thumbnail (and not just look at you in disgust). But it works!

>>160243>>160244Awesome, great to hear!! That's really odd how it's apparently only media players that can embed .gifs into .mp3s, I wonder why that is.. I also wonder if it's possible to force a .gif into a .jpg for another gag idea I have, but that is a different story.
Is that all your work?
Since you're keen on this, here a few of my more detailed findings during testing: I had to set the .gifs transparency to "Dithered" (I believe?) in Photoshop for it to look correct, any other option resulted in it being off-center in the thumbnail and having other visual errors. I also played around with the frame blending options and think I settled on "Frame blending", whereas the default I believe was "Frame sampling" - this might have been a bad idea actually because my .gif sits too long on the first frame in the .mp3, but plays smoothly everywhere else, which is an issue you luckily didn't seem to encounter.
No.160283
>>160265>That's really odd how it's apparently only media players that can embed .gifs into .mp3s, I wonder why that is..From what i can gather, it just an a bug/gray zone on how different programs handle trying to add a gif with more than one frame.
The ID3 tag specification only specifies that the
PIC entry should hold "image data" and that "
Image format is preferably “PNG” [PNG] or “JPG” [JFIF]". So if it can embed a gif directly, or just taking the first frame, or just converting it into png or jpg is up to each implementation. That said, it doesn't seem like neither VLC or MPV or mp3tag shows the whole gif for the mp3. I couldn't get it to play it at least. It only shows the first frame, or not at all. So VLC and Winamp might've just made a "lazy" implementation that happens to allow putting a whole gif, even though it would then only read the first frame from it while playing.
But here's where it gets interesting!
The reason it does work on kissu is probably another bug/gray zone. It seems like kissu simply extracts the image data from the mp3 file, and puts whatever image that is as a background image behind the embedded music player. And in the accidental case that a gif with more than one frame (even if it isn't strictly correct) was placed there kissu just uses it whole, instead of just taking the first frame of the gif.
Very much "undefined behavior" and "swiss cheese model".
>I also wonder if it's possible to force a .gif into a .jpg...by just converting the gif into a jpg, i guess? It won't be moving though, since jpg doesn't support it.
>Is that all your work? You mean the video and audio? No. It's an collab part by Mikan, but their youtube account/videos where terminated because youtube fucking sucks. I just used it because i already had it and it's very short (and nice).
For your other issues, i don't have photoshop and just used ezgif to get the video down into a small enough gif, so i don't have many suggestions to what is going on.
I think it could be photshop just being a little buggy when exporting gifs... or kissu not being able to handle the gif correctly with all gif specific settings. One thing to note is that kissu doesn't seem to technically display a gif in the end. It seems to have first converted the gif into webp, so that could also have been the issue, like if a gif setting doesn't have a proper match in webp.
Anyway, i think i've blabbered on about technical details for far too long. So here's another short YTPMV i like.

Does anyone have some details and - more importantly - solutions in regards to NND apparently blocking gaijins on certain videos? I just recently bothered to translate the message on what I had assumed were just deleted videos, but for some of them it states that I can't watch the content from my region.
I haven't seriously browsed there in a long while and attributed the lack of older videos to that mass deletion I heard occurred there some years ago, but I assume a bunch of them are still there and just don't show up because of the gaijin block.
Is there a way to circumvent this with some simple browser modifications, or do I really have to use a VPN to get the full experience now? For the record, the site itself I have already set to Japan and I'm definitely getting the correct comments and tags.

I couldn't get a match on some randomly chosen youtube video ID's in the filenames to any existing video in Rlcemaster3's new channel, so it looks like it could be.

What would be some quintessential Kissu material for KissuMADs? I guess entire shows like Utawarerumono or Tsukuyomi technically count, though that would be a ton of material for all relevant anime, so I'm trying to think of individual scenes / videos / .webms, etc. that should have a higher priority.
