Do you share any of your otaku interests with your family members?

 No.117229

Not really

 No.117231

Not even a little bit.

What do you mean by share? They've seen me watch or play Japanese things inadvertently once in a while over the years and have since like the late 90s, but I wouldn't say I talk about it. People seem more open about it these days, but I maintain my reclusive secrecy

I watched Hidamari and FMA with my lil bro while on a roadtrip like eight-nine years ago, then Nichijou after that
In the last couple years I got him to watch Madoka and Eva
That's the best I've got

My imouto "likes" anime but only because I've shown her some openings and because she looks up to me so much. She watches some shows that air on local TV sometimes like Sakura or Marmalade Boy. She also likes Pururin and Caramelldansen.

My sibling's otaku knowledge is limited to Madoka and Evangelion (Lain must be a part of that cursed curriculum too). When my younger cousins mentioned anime, I changed the topic because I know they watch shonen dubbed.

Not really, most of them have fairly norm interests except for my one little brother. He watches and enjoys shounen when he's not coloring maps in paradox games so I've sat down and watched Jojo/Bleach with him in the past. He absolutely hates otaku stuff though so I've never shared everything I like with him. The extent of what he knows is I liked Oreimo/Elfen Lied because he's come across and tried to watch those in his own time and hated them, and in reaction to finding that out I've flaunted my fondness of them as a way to tease him since I'm the oldest and most successful despite liking what he thinks is trash for low-class plebians. It never gets old.

I guess in the sense of watching anime with them, or perhaps recommending/discussing manga or VNs (although I doubt many people would seriously dicuss eroge with their family). Playing games together could technically count, but most multiplayer games probably wouldn't be considered as "otaku" realistically.

My little brother got me into anime by recommending FMA.

My oldest brother likes watching the more normal anime. One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist, Attack on Titan. You know, pretty popular stuff. He couldn't get into Steins;Gate unfortunately even though he sought it out on his own so I don't think he will ever delve deeper into becoming a die hard Otaku. Just a good old casual Anime enjoyer which is fine too.

>Caramelldansen
Did you know there's a Christmas version made?
She might like it, I do.

Oreimo is trash for low-class plebians. You should have shown him better incest anime.

Uh I tease him about stuff he found on his own that I like, not going to go through and show him all my favorite incest anime... (He hates his imouto anyways which is probably why he dislikes it so much.)

My imouto's a mega norp cheer captain miss perfect that eats up my wallet and always has me taking her to places. She's super tsun and bitches all the time and also plays african throat gurgles when I drive with her. Also she's really cute when she's happy, so I love her. (Though she was cuter when she was younger)

I hope she pays you back before her cuteness finishes going away.

I'm an only child and my parents are much older so there was never really any hobby sharing. My parents know I like anime but they don't know anything about it. My dad mentioned he watched like 2 eps of the Cowboy Bebop anime after the kuso live-action brought attention to it, but then he never brought it up again so I assume he never watched more.

 No.117261

Now that I think about my my mom bought me the End of Evangelion DVD for Christmas in like... 2001? I should still have it laying around here somewhere

 No.117270

My Grandmother knows I fansub but she's never asked to watch anything I've helped out with. Never seen her watch anime at all. Both my parents don't watch animated stuff at all. My younger brother watches some stuff but his knowledge of otaku stuff is very limited and mostly comes from stuff he's seen second hand on twitch. No idea if my imouto watches anime because I rarely see her at all maybe once every 3-4 years.

I mostly only watch anime with one IRL friend but he's mostly into stuff like MF Ghost and Initial D. He's watched some stuff I've suggested but his tastes aren't like my own. I did manage to get him to watch Onimai but genderbender stuff gives him the creeps. Miku is his waifu to give you an idea of where he's at.

Growing up I mostly hid my interests from people around me because the place I grew up in was 30 years behind the rest of America. My Japanese teacher even took me aside once when she found out I liked anime to shame me for being an otaku. She told me I'd never get anywhere in life if I watched anime and played video games. She turned out to be correct.

My cousin went through an anime phase where he watched the popular shounens as well as ecchi comedies like angel that fell from the sky or something like that.
I think Naruto was the only anime we both saw but there was not much to talk about with him about it. I tried to get him to watch Fate but he came across Prisma Ilya and was turned off by it(I never told him that I watched it).
He does not watch anime any more.

None of the other members of my Family watch or know anything about anime, they haven't even played Pokemon. Maybe I will get my nephew to play Pokemon when he is old enough so I have somebody to talk to about something Otaku related at least.

My sister went into my room while I was away and found my Fumos and my family made fun of me for that but were not interested in what they were or where they were from, they just called them creepy dolls.

I'm the outsider of the family now as I just don't have any common ground with them anymore.

I think a lot of people these days associated all doll like things with creepy horror and that's probably why she saw them like that.

Me and my brother grew up watching anime together. He got into it along with me. I also had a cousin who was into it that I would watch Gundam Wing, Berserk, and a bit more with when we lived near each other. The rest of my family knew about my interests and thought I was a freak of nature for singing J-Pop in my room and my grandma thought I was trying to sing opera while singing along with Malice Mizer.

It's a great show and while the pandering is kind of obvious with some camera angles and such, it's really quite unique and enjoyable to guys, too.
