Recently I've come across two different channels that seemingly popped outta nowhere and started putting out fairly specific and very high effort content at a pretty decent rate, which then went on to get hundreds of thousands of views. It's weird, so I wanted to share it:

Dogehammer Fortykay makes WarHam animations in the style of Madness Combat with the peculiarity that all humanoids are portrayed as a variation of doge, and they seem to have a pretty good grasp on the lore. Highly likely to have read at least some of the novels.
Mr. also makes animations, mainly centered around Zundamon but also featuring other synthesizers, consisting of absurd situations loaded with Jap memes. Their last video (>>112412) is a song that they wrote, drew, and edited by themselves. Their watermark is a black square, further adding to its oddity.

What motivates someone to straight up drop what they were doing, start from scratch with something so damn specific, and somehow still succeed in an environment where 99.99% of people are stuck with views well below 10k? The whole thing seems crazy to me.

Are you saying that they used to be famous on other channels and discarded all that for a new one? Or are you talking about dropping a job or whatever to pursue making YT videos? I don't think the latter is all that odd if that's the case since a lot of people hate their jobs and maybe if they found themselves in a comfortable place they can finally chase after success in a hobby of theirs instead of slaving away their life. Alternatively could just be a NEET with video editing skills that is well off enough.

More like the former. It's obvious that they've already spent a lot of time doing this kind of thing, what's strange to me is that they'd dump their previous account rather than shifting gears with it.

They got exposure through niconico.
niconico as a website is primarily focused on original creations and features a citation system which makes it easy to discover which secondary creations a popular original work has.
And on niconico you can actually list videos by upload date and last comment date so they're less influenced by algorithms. High effort videos like this gets noticed easily there.

Are you sure? ぬ's upload dates on the two platforms only differ by a few days, yet the YouTube videos have millions more views in total. In fact, their total views on nico are around the same as a single YT vid, the oldest one. It's about 1.8m vs 8.4m, with most nico vids having around 10k views or less.

Not a single one is below 10k.
YouTube has a much larger userbase so it's natural that it gets more views, but my initial point about niconico still stands.
After it gets exposure there it will spread on other social media websites where they give view counts on the YouTube version.

True, that was a mistake on my part, had a lapse there. Thankfully the total views count is still accurate.
Is there any analytics site for nico where we can check this stuff? In socialblade it says that the very first vid got ~138k views on its release week:
https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UCoCmygyRLVNZgawE-Nkvccg/monthly
There's also pic, so it seems its popularity from scratch got jumpstarted on both sites at the same time. There's a difference of four days between nico's (April 22th) and YT's (April 26th), and I'm not sure how meaningful that is.

In any case, the original question is why someone would do this, it's still a mystery to me.

To see if they could still do it.
A webfic author I follow, Alexander Wales, did this with a story called Worth the Candle and succeeded.

Yeah, honestly, that's probably it. Straightforward stuff.

Youtube doesn't look that hard, it's full of idiots.
That said music production and animation would be harder I think as you are not really competing with youtubers at that point.

>>112599
Music tends to get more views as it's short and people will replay it.

I wonder if there's any way to effectively measure Zundamon's increase in popularity. I still remember learning of HIM two years ago now in a random stream someone linked on /jp/ because he was using it as a TTS.
Actually... I don't think I ever learned how to do that. In the program (>>90430) it was a whole bunch of work just to say a few words, but that guy was doing it live. Kissu needs a Zundamon thread reader.
