There are some slight differences between Lloyd and other narou MCs that seem to be going a long way in setting him apart.
He's doing what he does not for the sake of power itself, to take it easy, because of some conflict going on, or any autopilot adventuring, he's consciously pursuing sorcery purely to hone his craft. He flatly rejects taking up any office simply because he's perfectly aware it'd give him less free time. He ends up being much more like Cid/Shadow, in the sense that he's more or less doing it for fun and epicness first and foremost.
And in terms of his powering up itself, the topical stories that aren't a completely generic JRPG usually have the player build up strength through some effectively parallel system, like iunno fukken strongest farmer, whatever the gimmick is, however in Dainanaoji the MC's interest is the magic as it exists for everyone else so that makes it easier for him to learn from others as it keeps happening. The systems it shows you are consistent and have enough depth for it to be entertaining, he has to try to do things correctly like learning qi breathing and the whole segment going over the enchantment process and the alchemy it included.
These aren't exactly unique, by no means, but it's definitely better than usual and coupled with a cute unhinged shota, the comedy, the interspersed chibi and the great animation it's surprisingly the one I'm enjoying the most.

>>74727Returning to this... what should be understood about Dainanaoji, and this is made truly obvious starting with episode 2, is that as it happens in plenty of other power fantasies its little magic systems exist not in service of the world, but of Lloyd. That they display more details than usual only furthers this. It's not, iunno, Witch Hat Atelier or Hunter x Hunter where multiple people can make use of their systems in different and relevant ways, in this case the goal of anything that is introduced is for Lloyd to incorporate it. Enchanting appears and is explained so that you can appreciate why this little kid is such a monster, but you'll never see anyone else doing something worthwhile with it. Everything exists only insofar as it can prove once more how great Lloyd is, which can be seen for example in how so many of the powerups that characters receive across the story are gifts bestowed by his grace alone. Side characters will do some cool things as well, but it is the seventh prince who sits at the center of the universe.
This is overwhelmingly a bad thing, and I hope in the future you'll be able to recognize it, although here it's executed well enough that I enjoyed it.

>>74973>This is overwhelmingly a bad thing, and I hope in the future you'll be able to recognize itwhat are you talking about. Of course it's bad story telling, but the spells are interesting as spells, not as character tools
No.74975
>>74974Spells are interesting if they have rules and boundaries. These do not exist for Lloyd, they are just gestures. Everyone constantly goes "OH MY GOD HOW'S HE DOING THAT, IT SHOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE!" from the very first episode, he does as he pleases.

Where did I say that everything is an isekai? You're painting me with a broad brush because you think I'm painting with a broad brush.
My assumption is someone dying and getting reborn in a different land is isekai, but maybe this one doesn't qualify? I'm not insulting the show or anything, I was under the assumption that it counted. I can't remember the specifics of the show because I saw the first episode like two months ago now.
In
shows like this the protag starting off as a kid and then time skipping ahead until they're a young adult is very common so I was under the assumption that a guy that looked similar to the protag but older was him. Again, I am not attacking the show.

>>75650Timeskips are a common feature across most genres. To identify them with isekai is weird.
And I did not say that you attacked the show. I responded to you designating a common trope as an isekai thing. That's where the "everything" comes from. If timeskips are isekai, then what else might be considered isekai? Swords? Trench-coats? Magic?
No.75653
well, most anime with swords in them ARE isekai-likes

>>75647>it's NOT an isekai ok it doesn't even have videogame statsorthogonal concept to isekai, the videogame stats genre is called litRPG (literary RPG). a lot of isekais are also litRPGs granted

No.75659
>>75655Well if you want to split hairs, litRPG can be sub-categorized into Gamelit, and that's when they show the numbers in the book. Like it becomes part of the narrative that "Oh wow MC-kun hit that monster for 9999+ damage" or some shit. Like showing stackblocks in the book itself.
