I think the Snail cube is actually a neat and cute little cube that will probably get more people into self-hosting stuff like games and whatnot if it's really packaged to be more like a too you use for streaming to your other devices. Assuming it's sold at a reasonable price point, I'd actually be happy if she could usher in the year of the linux desktop. I won't be buying it though, I've already got like 3 different hosting computers for different purposes and they're all probably stronger than that one in one way or another.

I'm not counting on that. She might be fine for a certain niche, but the Deck has wider appeal being fully portable.

Zen 4 with six cores and RX 7600 basically.

The Steamdeck was made after seeing people turn handheld stuff like the 3DS or Vita into emulator machines that could also load custom software. This was made after seeing what people were doing with micro ATX motherboards or Raspberry Pis to assemble mini PCs.
I guess I'm fine with it, but it still irks me in a way to see fun projects turned into corporate products. Those things I mentioned have/had nice cultures around them in the spirit of free sharing of information of software or hacking techniques while this is simply something people give money to a giant company to buy.
I guess it's just the way the world works. I hope people still do those things outside of Valve's gaze.

I already have an ubuntu laptop plugged into my TV. All it does is fetching new episodes from torrent RSS feeds and sending me a telegram notification when I should haul my ass from my room into the living room for that 4K Ultra HD anime experience with mpv shaders. It's also a full featured PC (duh), in fact, I'm typing this post on my TV with a wireless keyboard. I could install some emulators on it and it could do everything Steam Machine does, but I have no idea which games are good and what should I play.
