I don't know how many gigs, I just know I lost the random old unorganized folder, specific images folder which had my dance gifs and other various things, question mark folder, pout folder, and girls with weapons folder. It's a terrible loss, but at least I kept all my series related and board related images.

This is why you make backups, and then you make backups of the backups. I am sorry for your loss. Try running photorec on your hard drive just in case.

My data setup I've used for the past 20 years is that when I buy a new hard drive, I move a bunch of files to my oldest one and "decommission" it by disconnecting it and put it into storage. In this way my drives are never aged too much and I have quite a lot of copies of things. I even have some old CDs of data of when that was the premiere way to free up storage space.
It works out quite well.
