I've been working on reading through the paper "Voice Processing and Synthesis by Performance Sampling and Spectral Models" and have started to implement it. It seems as if most if not all of the relevant patents have expired.

I will post any updates here.

Umm.... huh. I see.

I can't tell if this is a bot post and I'm too scared to click the link..

Yeah, bot post was my first inclination.
OP, come post again and I'll restore the URL if you can explain what it is. Otherwise I'm going to delete this thread.

It's just a link to a PDF of a 2008 paper about vocal synthesis for singing. This paper is interesting as this paper, along with several others, were the papers that VOCALOID was based on. In fact, the prototype software mentioned in the paper was adapted into the VOCALOID software directly. You can even see this fact by noting that many class names mentioned in the paper can be directly found in the VOCALOIDAPI libraries.

It's just a PDF file. I would attach it directly - but you can't on this board.

251 pages of stuff that's way over my head.
But, I saw a picture of Miku! IT'S MIKU!

The tripcode had me somewhat convinced it's a real Anon, but the link and lack of an image made it look kind of scary..

That sounds very intriguing since I'm somewhat interested in voice synthesis, or the application of it at least.
What do you mean when you say you have started to implement the paper?

>What do you mean when you say you have started to implement the paper?
By that I mean that I am working on writing a software library for vocal synthesis based on the paper.

That sounds like a LOT of work. Where do you even begin? I'm guessing you're a programmer and you know, uh, music theory and stuff?

>That sounds like a LOT of work.
It is.
>I'm guessing you're a programmer
Yes
>and you know, uh, music theory
No
>Where do you even begin?
I wondered that at first too. I actually started this project a while. I haven't actually made that much progress, but I have a far clearer idea what to do now.

Music isn't really relevant here actually. This is mainly about signal processing.

Great project anonymous.
I've been wanting to work on voice synthesis myself but it keeps getting pushed back by other things I want to work on first, then there's the requirement of Mathematics that I fall short on.. lots of things to do...
Might be a post for /maho/ than /jp/.

How are you going to make a sample database? That seems like the most central part of the whole approach.

I'm not - I'm creating something intended to be compatible with VOCALOID, i.e. it would work with VOCALOID voicebanks, no need to create my own.
