Just wanted to show some kind of proof to that one anon in the risk thread that i'll be playing Fruit of Grisaia, after i kind of did half-promised to do it. Was able to buy it with another VN that i've been eyeing for a while now, so it felt like a sign to pick it up anyway.
Making no promises on if i'll enjoy it or not, but i'll at least be playing until i've done Michiru's route, since that was kind of the point.
Though, i'm not really sure how i'll know when i have, since i'm kind of rusty on VN concepts. The last time i really played a visual novel (excluding DDLC) was probably Wanko to Kurasou like over a decade ago... but i guess i'll figure it out as i go along.

Also, installer got assassinated mid-sentence.

Grisaia has very straightforward routing. IIRC it's basically just one choice to get on a girl's route, then one or two after that which determine if you get the good or bad ending. Plus a couple choices that are just for flavour.
Don't expect to get there anytime soon though. Grisaia has a very long common route, so it'll take you at least a week or so to get there, and that's assuming you're willing to sink at least a few hours into it each day.

That's good. Shouldn't be a problem then.
>it'll take you at least a week or so to get there, and that's assuming you're willing to sink at least a few hours into it each day.
Oh, in that case it'll probably be looking more towards like a month or two for me, since i probably aren't going to be able to put more than a few hours a week between everything else.

I never finished every route in this, just Micharu (or whatever the blonde was called), the pink-haired maid... Sachin? And the black-haired one.
My vita started having issues while I was on the route of the reddish-purple hair boober girl.
Alas...

Oh and yes there was a patch thing for the Vita version that added back the sex. Vita really was the swan song of handhelds for various reasons...

Alright, to that one anon, at this point i think it's about time to admit that this is... really fun actually.
Both the girls and the surprisingly colorful main character too. And fittingly enough, i think the character i like the most so far is indeed Michiru.
So perhaps there really was a sign that it was time for me to play this after all. Heh...
If i didn't have work i probably would've spend much more time on it than i currently can. Argh, this isn't helping with suppressing my NEET desires... sigh... oh well...
>>100632
Ah, that's a shame. I lost an almost finished burnout paradise playthrough once as a kid when our family's computer busted.
>the reddish-purple hair boober girl.
That's Amane, i think? (The big sister girl) Maybe she was just too much for the vita to handle, heh...
>>100633
I did get the "unrated version" myself with some patches, but i'm guessing it might be quite a while until i get to those parts, assuming it's at the end of each character's route...

Didn't think this thread would still be up, but since it is, here's a quick update. It seems i've finally made it to the first choice! Took a little longer than expected since i wasn't able to put down as much time as i hoped, but at least it's been very fun every time i was able to sit down and read/play another bit of it, usually before bed.
Also, since i'm guessing this might be the choice to enter sachi's route, i'm going to leave it for now, and instead look forward to when a choice is presented for Michiru!

VNs are not videogames. You just read, so aside from that is nothing complex. Just remember to save a on decisions or follow a route walktrought or something.

I really can't remember how/when you choose, but I do think it's quite obvious. My first route was Michiru as well because it seemed the most interesting, and it IS quite interesting.

Videogames are a misnomer. It's all interactive multimedia

 No.102717

important distinction: VNs are not games, but not all videogames are games either
standard minecraft for example lacks a true victory or failure state, which means that according to strict definitions it is not a game either, yet it is also the most popular videogame of all time

 No.102731

>>102716
VNs are basically CYOA books with music and pictures. Or kinetic VNs are just books with music and pictures.
>>102717
I don't like your definition of game. For me, a game is an activity that requires rules, usually for entertainment. Playing chess is a game, and war is also a game, yet no one does neither for entertainment.

About VNs... is just reading. No one says a program is a videogame, if you open a .pdf of a novel on your PDF reader of choose on your computer, is a novel, on a video screen, and you usually read shit for entertainment. But no one call that a "videogame".

>VNs are not videogames
Not sure how that's relevant, but yeah they're more like a kind of interactive CYOA novel, aren't they?

Someone else said it should be pretty easy, so i don't think i'll miss it.

Books don't offer BG, sprites, animations, pacing of text, music, voicelines, possible minigames or gameplay spliced between reading sections

Oh, should've updated. Oh well, still funny how we both pretty much came to the same definition. The music and picture is also a good point though. It kind of becomes more easy to immerse in when it's more visual like that.

Bicker over semantics all you want but you will never crush my yamato damashii. The Japanese call visual novels "geemu" and therefore so will I.

The japanese calls visual novels ADVs and NVLs.

Not that anon, but you're wrong if you think that's all they call it. Those are specific terms for two different types of VNs. I think you're aware of that.
https://vampdoll.dojin.com/
Here's a VN I am waiting for to come out this year hopefully, she calls it 百合ノベルゲーム (noberu ge-mu, not ADV, I've never seen anyone say ADV or NVL outside of VNDB tags. The idea that Japanese people only say ADV or NVL is completely off the mark.

>standard minecraft for example lacks a true victory or failure state
what
you die, that's a failure state
you beat the ender dragon and witness the ending text, that's a victory state

 No.102818

>>102816
incorrect
you lose your items but the game continues nonetheless, and the more you advance the less individual deaths matter as you have more and more resources stored outside of your inventory
in a regular arcade game, the failure state is not to lose a life but to lose all your lives, that's where it ends and you have to start over, in games with a single life you'll often have to reload
in chess the failure state is losing your king
a game with infinite respawns, like dork sols, may lack a full failure state, but it still has an ending, a final victory state after defeating the final boss
however, minecraft doesn't end, it does not have a stopping point, whether a final failure or a final victory, and killing the ender dragon is merely an optional milestone

When you realize the imposter is sus.

Heh... well anyway, since this thread is still up i just wanted to make another quick update.
I'm pretty sure i've finally gotten into Michiru's route now, and i think i might agree with the other anon:
>>102715
>My first route was Michiru as well because it seemed the most interesting, and it IS quite interesting.
I'm not going to spoil it but i had a pretty fun "Hmm..." and "Aaah..." moment as i was starting to get into it. And i haven't finished it yet, so i'm quite curious how it's going to end.

Either way, this thread has probably dragged on for longer than needed, so i think i'm going to let this be my final update and leave the ending for myself.
Sorry for having you endure what has basically been me blogposting about playing Grisaia... which then seemed to have devolved into an argument of what defines a "video game" for some reason... oh well...
It's been over two months since i started but it's been a very fun time so far, and i'm glad i took the opportunity to check this out when it presented itself.

Nice to see you here! Was hoping you'd see this thread, since you were kind of the final push that got me to get it.

Oh, well maybe then i'll make another update if something happens that i feel is worth it.
