interesting, so this survey is specifically about japanese people in their 20s
https://automaton-media.com/en/news/almost-19-of-japanese-people-in-their-20s-have-spent-so-much-money-on-gacha-they-struggled-with-covering-living-expenses-survey-reveals/and the source is indeed jap, the results are here
https://www.smbc-cf.com/news/data/2025/03/news_20250327.pdf>>90628>>90631this is a stretch
there are some that do make good use of their gachabux, like indeed nasu or cygames with priconne and uma musume, but there exist tons and tons of gacha that do not translate into other forms of media of high quality, like say, those of dragon ball, arknights, or blue archive, and some original anime have been made that ended up being letdowns because they were gacha adverts, like takt op
the predominance of gacha doesn't particularly support fan artists, as they would anyways have a great amount of newly released content to make art for every season, nor am i particularly attached to any of what they do produce, and it's highly debatable whether putting money into gacha is actually good as you have none of the winnings potential of real betting nor the cheaper and unobstructed progression of a real rpg
if it's gonna be financed by massifying addiction and steering people away from better things, i'd rather it weren't made at all
