Perhaps it is one of the great mysteries of our world that we're not meant to understand.

No.10248
>>10247Hm, I guess it's not obvious, but it's actually an idol show! The girls have "secret" identifies as AiPris, which are girls that perform in a separate dimension entered via magical mirror. They sing on a stage and people can watch them on their phones.
The singing part is kind of meh, unfortunately, since each character has one song that's used every time. Each episode has about 3-4 minutes of re-used footage of the transformation and song as a result, so that part is similar to mahou shoujo.
The 3D looks decent enough, although it gets obliterated by bit rate limitations and it's difficult to take a screenshot of a good frame.
No.10249
>>10247Same. There is just something great about them other genres don't have. I love happy go-lucky mahou shoujo worlds. Where everything is cute, everyone is happy and the future looks bright and hopeful.

>>10248>The 3D looks decent enough, although it gets obliterated by bit rate limitations and it's difficult to take a screenshot of a good frame. That's not the fault of the production. It's because everyone involved in distro is lazy and bad at their jobs. From the guy that mastered the BD down to the encoder that took that and butchered it.
I'm not sure why none of these people can produce something that looks good. It's really easy. It's kind of depressing that someone like me that learned digital video in my free time at age 12 can produce something better than someone that went to school for 4+ years to learn how to do production, editing and encoding.
It's really easy to adjust the bitrate and settings for those sections where a lot is going on in the background. You just have to find the frames and manually tell the codec to expect a jump in bitrate in those sections. Maybe adjust over all bitrate a bit to give yourself some breathing room.
No.10253
>>10252There is no reason why TV and streaming companies can't put out something on-par with BDs. Most BDs are pretty horribly mastered. They throw tons of bitrate at them for no reason and use a filter to inject grain to prevent banding in gradients because they're still using the old commercial 8-bit color h.264 codec. Even using that codec you can prevent that stuff without using the lazy tricks they use. They just don't give a fuck because they only put 3-5 episodes on a disc and people will buy them anyway. Most people can't tell the difference anyway. But I'm repeating my usual rant when it comes to this stuff.
Just sad to see how bad things are and the fact that the industry will never change. I don't know why but it always seems like the people that hate whatever type of content the most are the ones that end up working on it and distroing it.
No.10254
>>10253>>10252A little tip: If you use ffmpeg or one of the GUI tools for it you can search for I-frames. Then you can know which frames are the best for screenshots. I-frames will always have an entire image (same as a .jpeg/.png basically) and get the most of the bitrate.
The bad frames you're seeing is where the codec didn't properly place an I-frame.
No.10255
>>10254Hmm, that's a lot of work for a screenshot! Thankfully it only happens during the 3D parts here and the 3D, while passable, is generally not screenshot-worthy when compared to 2D charm.
And boy does Aipri have charm!
Okay, I'll have to watch some more episodes later.
No.10256
>>10255It doesn't have to be a lot of work. If you're on Windows you can use AVSPMoD and it'll show you what the frame type is. You can step through frame-by-frame with it or jump directly to any frame you want easily.
https://github.com/gispos/AvsPmod/releasesIf you're on Linux you can still run this application through wine. There is a comparable application for vapoursynth but it's pretty awful. For some reason modern programmers aren't as good as making things as programmers were circa 90s-2000s.

>>10358>These little bunny guys are really cute now that I heard them talk! Do they have a lot of screen time? They're cameo characters from a different series. They'll never be seen again. (Probably). And yes they're commonly just referred to as 'mascots'.
This show's mascots are floating little helpers that only exist in the AiPri dimension, but also Tsumugi inhabits a stuffed animal that she can control as her body. The former barely show up and only briefly as background characters, but Tsumugi usually gets a little focus every couple episodes.
This isn't really a show for Mascots, though. Might I suggest

>>10358>>10360I bought a holographic picture of the Onegai My Melody main characters are the local weed shop months ago. It sat on a high shelf for over a year and I waited until they dropped the price from $50 down to $10 before I snagged it. The girl cashier laughed at me and I had to lie and say I was buying it for a child. I'm pretty sure she knew I was lying through my teeth.
Still haven't had the bravery to hang it on my wall yet. But soon.
