You may not realize it, but your brain does every time generic music plays or you're subjected to a bad soundtrack. It's why everyone should aspire to be more than just industry standard background sound.

What even is "generic music"?
Elevator music, radio pop, corpo stuff?

Every genre can have generic tracks, I think it just means tracks that use the most common techniques of the genre it's in and dont do anything original

Not to call anyone out on anything, but is OP's sentence correct? I had to read it 2 or 3 times to notice the "You may not realize it, but your brain does" relation and it seems others had the same issue, but it does make sense to me now. Asking as a curious ESL.

i do think it is ungrammatical or at least borders on it, yes
when you use a pronoun like "it", that's supposed to point to an antecedent that is already in context, but op is referring to something that won't appear until the end of the sentence
and while "it" isn't yet known, "does" comes in to refer to a previous verb (realize) but the reader is still trying to figure out what "it" is supposed to mean, and then it would appear that "it" (every time generic music plays) is what the brain is doing, which would be nonsensical
"realize" is a weird choice as well because the brain is stated to be doing this unconsciously yet realizations/awareness are a conscious experience by definition
a clearer way to put it would be "every time generic music plays your brain picks up on it, even if you don't"

I like repetitive 80s Pop, Disco and so on and have been told it's "trashy" because it's supposedly specifically crafted to be catchy and simple. I understand how more complicated music like Jazz can make you go "Woah" with how it's able to make uncommon patterns work in the system of music, but when I listen to music I just want to have fun and enjoy nice sounds.

>>120662
Thank you very much, I understand it now. I hope OP doesn't feel bad about it with all the memeing going on in here.

I've hated every single time i had to stand in the spotlight. No, i'd rather spend my entire life as an unknown nobody who can do what they want in my own tiny corner of the world, without anyone barely even caring or noticing i'm even there.
