And this is very impactful on trying to learn Japanese because not having a fundamental understanding of what makes up English grammar as a native leads to issues when you're trying to learn different concepts that tie the different points of the language together and you're sitting at your little study desk going "Huh? What's that?" and then you start to realize that there's so much you've forgotten or brushed off as a child when it comes to understanding English because that's just what you were taught and what you know that you need to spend an enormous amount of time now relearning WHY everything works.
