I circle between different kinds of personal hobby projects, but I don't get far. I see where it's going after the basics are done, and I lose interest. Is it unfun for me, or what? What am I doing? A what what a what?

That's the main reason why I have a generalist profile today. I have a highly shifting hyper focus, which means I'll focus on some subject from a few weeks to a few months at most, and then completely forget about it for the next interest.
I'll say, at least from my experience, that's very bad from a market/career standpoint. Companies mostly value deep expertise, and it's impossible to obtain that if you shift your focus every few months.

The opinion I have though, after giving a lot of thought on this behavior of mine, taking into account future prospects of my career etc, is that I simply do not give a fuck. Companies optimize for profits, and they do not care about quality. If you try to change yourself to appeal to companies, you're robbing yourself of your own curiosity that makes you, you... for the sake of capital. Could I potentially have a better paying job than what I currently have, if I focused in a single thing? Sure. But I know for a fact I'd be extremely miserable, as I *hate* having to study something for the sake of studying.

Having said that, though... I did make myself suffer for a few months just to be at the very least attractive to companies, otherwise I'd starve. I have a stable job and a very good reputation among my current and past coworkers, so nowadays I can just not give a fuck about this anymore. I just do whatever I want to do in my free time, and nobody shall stop me from autistically jumping between projects and subjects!

Understandable and I agree.
I didn't mean any w*rk stuff however. It's all personal. Very crazy it is to have personal projects, or any projects, to that matter.

Passion can only get you so far, eventually willpower and discipline need to take over
If you're keen to actually finish something, look at how long it takes for you to lose interest in something and think of a project you could potentially finish in that time and work your way up
It also helps if you can convince yourself that dropping a hobby is wholly negative and not natural (even though it is)
That way time away from your passion projects weighs you down and it makes coming back to them feel comforting and relaxing

I found this to mainly be a problem pertaining to the whys of what you're doing. Once the novelty wears off you may start to wonder why you're giving all your time to said thing, and that's when it collapses. You need a good enough reason to be doing something, such that when those questions arise you can answer them and keep going. It's hard to justify pushing forward otherwise. I think for a "hobby surfer" this can be a difficult point to get to, requiring special sets of circumstances to align that lead them to stick with something. They are otherwise just not built like people who pick up something and do it forever without much thought. It's likely better to embrace it than fight it, though that shouldn't prevent someone from experimenting with more structured regimens if they wanted to try it.

I'll say, at least from my experience, that's very bad from a jp/1cc history standpoint. Imageboards mostly value deep expertise, and it's impossible to obtain that if you shift your focus every few months.

The opinion I have though, after giving a lot of thought on this behavior of mine, taking into account future prospects of my 1cc history etc, is that I simply do not give a fuck. Imageboards optimize for fun!!!, and they do not care about quality. If you try to change yourself to appeal to imageboards, you're robbing yourself of your own curiosity that makes you, you... for the sake of screenshots. Could I potentially have a better paying game than what I currently have, if I focused in a single thing? Sure. But I know for a fact I'd be extremely miserable, as I *hate* having to learn 日本語 for the sake of learning 日本語.

Having said that, though... I did make myself suffer for a few months just to be at the very least attractive to imageboards, otherwise I'd starve. I have a stable game and a very good reputation among anonymous, current and past, so nowadays I can just not give a fuck about this anymore.
