I went through this. I discovered magic was real but then I was too lazy to stop playing video games and only took a minor interest. This was for the best because I accidentally made myself impotent trying a sigil to grow my penis. After that I called it quits. I cant imagine what perils could have befallen me if I tried a more ambitious ritual. I also think King James is right in his description of magic in Daemonologie, its just trickery. Its best to stay away, the occult is based on mechanistic causal thinking firmly rooted in the belief of universal constants that can be manipulated for our gain. Its just larping naturalists pretending to have discovered deeper forces who can permanently alter their psyches (for the worst usually) by using ancient symbolic combinations embedded in the collective unconsciousness. There is something there but its not what it says it is.
