I used to be really scared about it. When I was still I high school, I was really scared about sharing my anime figures and otaku interests. Even when I did I hid behind irony to make it cool and ok. I really regret that.
I moved around when I became interested anime and would have gotten into deeper otaku culture. I was even making effort to learn and making good progress in Japanese then. Then I moved, and gave it up to be cool. I was very successful, but it wasn't worth it. I genuinely love otaku culture and regret the wasted time on people I don't care about.

It was the same for me, I genuinely lack a filter when talking about the things I love, during soccer, gym, school breaks, I would talk about whatever trivia I knew about and could go for hours if I had the slightest indication that the person I was talking with was somewhat interested while missing the social cues about stopping for a second and the let the person hearing me out talk too kek.
Nowadays I am a little better about it, still get into my long ramblings once in a while but I avoid doing that too much at work.
