Getting old sucks...

 No.111249

He wasn't exactly old, just got unlucky and got bowel cancer and possibly wasn't screened ahead of time to catch it early. Very depressing.
I guess filters will alter it here, but I hope things aren't "kuso" where he is now. May he bawl in the other world...

 No.111252

Memes aside, the fact that half of the cast of Beverly 90210 is dead and now members of more modern shows like Dawson's Creek and Buffy The Vampire Slayer are dying is really messing up my mind.

Goodnight, Bawson. May heaven be the perfect non-kuso /jp/ you always wished for.

Why do we miss if it was so kuso shoddy?

You never know how much time you have left. May he rest in peace.

pouring one out tonight

Never watched the series, so I'm in one of those situations where I can't feel any emotional connection.
Rest in Peace, I guess.

Fuck. Lost a friend to that same kuso.

James Van Der Beek was an actor in a show that was popular in the early 00s called Dawson's Creek.
There was a part of the show where he was crying and it somehow became a rather widespread gif in online geek circles. It even spread to 4/jp/ which certainly otherwise had nothing to do with an American teen show for girls.
It's one of those "you had to be there" things of the 2000's internet.

Meanwhile Dick Van Dyke is still going strong.

I commented once before on old /qa/ that nerd culture of the early double aughts was much more well rounded media consumers, and less tribal than what seems to be the norm the last decade on.
Like you see on archives Sonic or Touhou reactions right alongside Futurama or Star Trek stuff even.

>nerd culture of the early double aughts was much more well rounded media consumers
This is true. I feel like this might be a result of Western geek culture falling so far behind in regards to new IPs or alienating their old fans. I'm trying to think of the most modern thing I engaged in, but I'm drawing a blank.
Well, people do love PC strategy games? Indie games are carving out a niche, but it's largely a niche.

Probably because culture at the time was a lot more centralized as a whole compared to the little pockets that everyone is in right now. Most people just have completely different YouTube algos suggesting them content catered to themselves instead of all watching TV where the amount of broadcast programs is limited. There's no adult swim equivalent for the current 4chan user.

>possibly wasn't screened ahead of time to catch it early
He mentioned that when he announced his diagnosis, yeah.
And this keeps surprising me every time. If I were loaded like these actors (or singers, see Brad Arnold, singer from 3 Doors Down, who died of kidney cancer just a couple weeks ago), you can bet your ass I would do a full body check-up every year or two.
