I find ASMR to be grating. There's too many fluctuations in volume and noise that make it offensive to my ears. Even if I understood the language I just can't listen to it by choice.
Older nerds talking about things in a monotone voice is pretty good, though. Maybe it's a psychological thing, but I doubt it.

I agree with this for everything related to "intentional ASMR", which I personally don't even consider to be ASMR.
As a kid I would always feel very relaxed and tingly when I got checked up by doctors, all of which for some reason talked in a really nice and calm voice, as if that was a quintessential part of the trait. I don't know, there's just something nice about a professional gently touching your body (in a non-sexual way) and talking to you like a parent figure. I asked about this phenomenon on an imageboard in the early 2010s, was told it might be related to ASMR and then used old medical checkup videos to relax (attached video is my favorite). One or two years later all that content got completely drowned out by people putting a 500 dollar mic inside their mouth and panning widened stereo fart noises from left to right while telling the viewer they're proud of him for listening. My biggest issue with the trend is the very obvious sexualization in way over half the videos. I'm just trying to relax.

I've listened to the earpick incident Prisma Illya ASMR... That's the only ASMR I've sought out.

Definitely! I still feel completely fine around them and experience ASMR depending on the person, but they don't come off as superior authority / saviors anymore, probably because during your teen years you slowly start to realize that everyone is a normal human just like you.

As for nerds, I don't mind them putting some emotion into their voice so long as the end result is still calm in nature. I couldn't mention anyone because I rarely bookmark stuff, but I especially like it when they don't use BGM and it's just their voice playing. No BGM gives it an entirely different feeling.
